I’m worried about my transcript and how it will look to the Academy.

Hi, I’m a straight A student , rising senior and I entered in my final exam for my economics class before the last day of school. While waiting for grades to be entered, my classmates notified me that my economics teacher entered grades without grading the final exam. I looked at my transcript and was surprised to see that I got a B and that most of my classmates did as well. We discussed that our grade should be different if our economics teacher entered the score our final exam on time. I looked at the assignments section of my grades and viewed the assignments under my economics and the final exam did not have a score , and was marked “Not Graded”. I took a screenshot of the assignments and contacted the superintendent right after regarding the situation. I did not contact my principal because he never replies to my emails. I am worried because my parents will become furious if they see that B on the transcript because my teacher failed to grade my assignment on time. I didn’t turn in the final project for nothing. I turned in the final exam hoping it would raise my grade but it didn’t because he didnt enter a score for it. When the academy sees that’s B on the transcript, will I have to explain why I got it? Will I have to explain that my teacher didn’t score my final exam on time?

Did you talk to your instructor? As in go into his/her office and inquire what’s going on? Always try and settle stuff with the primary person first. Get a good understanding of the situation. Could be a simple misunderstanding or oversight. Usually things are a miscommunication, verses complete negligence. Give your instructor a chance to clear it up before traveling up the line.

Your principal would be next. If the teacher is missing deadlines, that’s a personnel issue they need to deal with. If your principal doesn’t respond to emails, call him/her. Or pay a personal visit.

Figuring out how to handle issues that come up, starting with the initial person/problem, is a good life skill. Don’t jump all the way to the top (superintendent) without giving your instructor a chance to remedy the situation. Chain of command kind of stuff. Not just a military thing.

As a side note, not sure why you would have to explain a B....

Was your overall grade a B, or just the Final? I’m not 100% sure, but USAFA should be concerned with your final transcript, not a breakdown of each marking period. If you maintained an A in every other marking period, you could have failed the final (given there was a midterm) and the overall grade will appear as an A on your final transcript. I imagine it is aggravating to say the least, and your parents anger should not be directed towards you, but USAFA is less concerned you maintained a perfect academic record, more that you are a well rounded candidate who excels not only in Academics, but every other aspect of your life.

For the last few days of school my teacher hasn’t been here especially on the last day of school, and I heard he’s not returning to school as of the next school year. I’m on summer break now, but I will try emailing him. Yes, I will contact my principal after sending the email to my teacher but thank you for replying.

My overall grade was a B. I checked my score for the final and it was marked as “Not Graded”, meaning it does not have a score yet. And no I didn’t fail it since the final hasn’t been graded yet.

That’s so odd. If were me, I would follow up. Even if a B won’t be a big difference in GPA, it’s the principle of the thing that would bother me. If you don’t get a response from the teacher (maybe give it a week?) I would call the principal. They work year-round. But that’s me. Good luck!!

Ask the Teacher, then Department head, then Vice Principal/Principal. Do it quick.

Sort of a funny question. I am assuming that he got accepted into an academy and is worrying about a B. There are people asking the same question but they are worried they got a C or a D. To answer Pinkflower, I too would be upset that the grade is really incomplete, but in terms of the the academy it is a none issue and "who cares"
