hi, going into PS and am considering getting my ears pierced (for the first time, middle of the lobe) before hand and wasnt sure if they are within regs for PT uniform? Im able to get them as gold ball studs so no problem there but the website doesnt say anything about regs for pt and i wanna make sure since id basically have them in the duration of PS

I would advise you not to get your ears pierced prior to Plebe Summer. You are not going to allowed to wear your gold ball studs.

During the academic year, females are allowed to wear one conservative earring in each year, so getting your ears pierced might be something to consider after you get through the summer.

Congratulations on your appointment.

Some people are prone to infections after they get their ears pierced. If yours have not healed completely you are asking for trouble during plebe summer. Sweating, crawling through the mud, swimming in the pool, in the Severn River. Wait till Plebe summer is over. You waited this long, you can wait 3 more months and treat yourself after completing Plebe Summer.

Agree on waiting. I do not think you have the time needed to allow them to heal completely prior to reporting. With 3 weeks to go they won’t be completely heeled, will need more cleaning then you will have time for and have to remove them frequently for activities. I would wait until maybe winter break. You all have more time and control during the academic year to allow them to heal and proper care.

Did you have to fill out a ‘body piercing/altercation’ form as part of your PTR packet? I thought DS did. Although it’s been a while since he did his forms. Maybe that was ROTC?

Either way, don’t do it. Don’t do anything to alter (tattoos, piercings...) yourself in general after you receive your appointment. Just not a good idea, imo. Stuff CAN happen (infection, etc). And you may find that it’s not important or even desirable after you join your new family. IMO.

The key to a healthy, problem-free piercing is the ability to regularly clean the new piercing and earring with the right materials the recommended times over the course of a day for a length of time until healing is complete (two problems right there, the time and access to proper cleaning materials), wearing the earring 24/7 for the recommended time period (another problem), keeping the general area free of contaminants such as dirt (another challenge), losing an earring or earring back, and having to take both out with no opportunity to replace (holes close up, wasted effort).

Get them done the night or the morning after you go home for winter break. You can tend them carefully and ensure healing. And ask for the pearl and diamond (or CZ) studs allowed with certain dress uniforms! There are regs about size and shape.
