The USNA site doesn't specify if the basketball throw has to be done with one arm. A picture shows a girl doing it with one arm, but the instructions don't specify that. My daughter is much better throwing it overhanded with both arm, is that ok?

One arm only. Go deeper into USNA site and you'll find very clear guidance about CFA. Also use search function on this forum to read many, many posts about CFA.

Yes. Read up on it. There is a very specific technique kinda like throwing a grenade, not like throwing a baseball. It requires practice

Yup, and it’s all in the core. Twist and throw.

Lots of good videos online. It takes practice and it took DS quite a while to get the hang of it. It was easily his toughest event.

I try to search this forum for stuff on CFA, but I get errors saying the search keyword is too short.

Commenting on an old post but in case there are any lurkers or current readers.

@JitsMom - your DD is a javelin thrower? I think I saw somewhere that you were from NJ. A million years ago, I went to HS in NJ and we had javelin back then - I have to say it was crazy given the NJ spring weather/wind. I saw a lot of "near misses" and was actually at two meets where someone was hit by a javelin (one was impaled!). Anyway...

I threw discus back in the day. I have never done the BB throw but in viewing the videos, your DD might consult with the discuss coach (could be the same as javelin) as the bb ball throw seems similar to discus.
