My son has very mild peanut allergy but considering to join the service. Is it true that AFROTC would immediately disqualify candidate but NROTC wouldn't mind?

A peanut allergy is disqualifying for Navy as well. Waivers are few and far between.

Any sort of peanut allergy is disqualifying. If it is mild, I would recommend starting immunotherapy ASAP and get an oral challenge taken before he goes to his physical exams, I was in the same boat as your son. I am currently in this process as I am waiting to hear back on my administrative remedials. Let me know if you have any questions

DQ's are DQ's across all branches. The waivers are what differ.

If your son has never been diagnosed with a peanut allergy, then let it go. I have never been force-fed a peanut as a condition of my service, and your son will not either.

If he has received an actual diagnosis, then follow the above advice. Take steps to resolve the allergy and pass an oral challenge.

Air Force is strict on allergies especially peanut allergies. They are better with tree nuts as you will have a better chance getting a wavier for the tree nuts.. I think the issue with peanuts is lots of foods that dont have peanuts are processed in facilities that also process peanuts so there is contamination. From what I hear, the Army is easier when dealing with peanut and tree nut allergies.

This is going to be an unpopular opinion, but I would just lie on DODMERB exam to save the troubles. Its not like they will find out. If they do, the worst they can do is disenroll you from AFROTC.

From personal experience, I received an AFROTC scholarship, but got disqualified for a peanut allergy.

Seventy four percent of all relationships are based on deceit.

I am confused, you say that chances are you wont get caught if you lie but you did caught and thrown out. Doesnt that mean, there is a could chance of getting caught. Also, if you are on scholarhsip and get dq for allergies, wont you have to pay back the money

The waiver standard for Army is pass a medically supervised oral challenge with no reaction. If you fail to disclose, subsequently have a reaction and are hospitalized you are at risk of being disqualified for failure to disclose, in which case you would be subject to payback. If you get a waiver and are subsequently disqualified because the condition gets worse you may not be subject to disqualification.

I didnt lie on the exam, and I got disqualified. Im saying it is my advice for the OP to lie.

Don't lie, nor should you follow the advice of someone who was DQ'ed on a completely separate/unique case. I was completely honest with my condition and was placed on administrative remedial. It's not always an instant DQ. If you want to start out your career as an officer by lying, you should reevaluate your career choice.
