School Superitendent's Son

^^ And the study was done for USMA ......NOT USNA. You can't assume everything about the application process is the same. Many individuals apply to both SA's in the same year and get an appointment to one, but the TWE from the other, so obviously there are differences. Quibbling about how many points SHOULD be awarded for Boys State vs. Eagle Scout is pointless since none of us has any ability to change that. No single activity/accomplishment/award results in an automatic appointment to ANY SA.

The situation is that the School Superintendent has possibly used his influence........

Back to the OP's original question. Regardless of whether or not you are a BGO, exactly what did the person who first told you of this situation expect you to do about it? Stating that someone MAY have influenced the situation also sounds like conjecture. I think the best advice I have read thus far is to advise the applicant to focus on what they can control and ignore outside 'noise'.

I went to Boys State last year, and there was a USMA stand at the college fair at the end, and they told us it was the equivalent of an Eagle Scout or Billy Mitchell Award. Not to mention throughout the week our counselors and some of the other guys running it said the same thing. In fact, I think my BGO even said it was the equivalent of an Eagle Scout Award.

In my opinion, Boys State was fun, I learned a lot, and gained a ton of leadership experience, but it didn't take near the amount of dedication, time, and effort to earn my Mitchell award. Not to mention a couple of Eagle Scouts at Boys State were kinda mad that a week of partying and speeches were equal to the literal years of effort they put into earning their Eagle Scout.

All that aside though, Boys State was an awesome experience and anyone reading this who is applying this year or whenever in the future, GO TO BOYS STATE.
