I am going into my junior year of undergrad studies, majoring in biology, and have thought about joining the Air Force after my undergrad is done. I have looked into applying for OTS when I graduate, and the AFROTC program as an option. If I were to go the AFROTC program, I would mot likely go for my masters in an accelerated program to get done within 1-2 years. I was wondering if someone could a little insight to both routes? Thanks!

This page is geared towards highschool students and people applying to the service academies. Check out the ROTC page on this forum or r/airforce on Reddit.

You are late to the program for AFROTC. You must attend SFT (summer program) to become POC. You must be a PoC for at least 3 semesters. That means the earliest you could graduate/commission is Dec 2021. You are also going a non-tech degree, and if you want to go non-rated, chances decrease for SFT selection. (Your cgpa matters a lot, non-tech need to hover @3.3/3.4)

I would contact the det at your college and ask to sit down with them for guidance. Simultaneously I would meet with a recruiter for OTS.

If you've got a decent GPA, are in good physical health & don't have your heart set on the Air Force, then obtaining an OCS commission in either the Army or Marine Corps is certainly well within reach.

The Army has the largest overall need for officers, given their size. True, most Army officers come through West Point & ROTC, but there are OCS classes all the time to fill the rest of their needs.

The Marines actually get a majority of their new officers through OCS.

Odds are better than USAF OTS, which is really competitive for a relative handful of positions. Particularly if you're not a pilot.

And if you've never been to either a US military academy or been on ROTC scholarship, all you need is 36 months active duty to qualify for the GI Bill, which translates to a Master's Degree for essentially no cost after you've served as a commissioned officer (assuming you're not a 20-year man).

Good luck!

You could do Army ROTC while in Grad School. If you know where you plan to attend grad school I recommend you talk to the ROO/enrollment officer about your options. You didn’t say what you want to do in the military/why the Air Force. There may be a better fit with more options.
