Sports Tape Allowed in Care Package?

I have a minor knee "injury" so my physical therapist recommended that I bring some sports tape to PS. I know they may not accept it if I bring it with me on I-Day, but would it be ok for my family to include it in the care packages they send me?

Thanks in advance!

Your family can send it in a care package. But no telling whether the detailers will confiscate it. Can depend on the company. It might be considered “quasi medical,” and that tends to be an official thing to be addressed by Brigade Medical. You can always bring it on I-Day and see what they do. And if you don’t, you can always ask the day after I-Day about the care package.

Since you write "injury", are you talking about knee pain and using kinesio (KT) tape to unload something (like a patellar tendon) to relieve the pain?
I cannot think of any actual knee injury that can be helped enough with standard white sports tape, to get you through Plebe Summer. If you have such an injury, you should have already reported it to DoDMERB.

First thing I thought of is “has this been reported?” I can’t imagine arriving with knee pain already. That knee is going to go through an awful lot of stress (and that’s even an understatement).

If the “‘injury’” really is minor OP is likely fine either way. I have friends who went into Plebe Summer with things like rolled ankles and were fine in the end, as much as it sucked. I’m not recommending this, but it isn’t the end of the world. The running at PEP isn’t all that strenuous considering you get to choose which speed group you run with. BMU and Ortho are always available to provide you with advil, ice, other treatments, and can put you on an excusal chit if worse comes to worst.

As to the original question, in my company tape would have been fine. The only common things we couldn’t bring or receive in the mail were OTC drugs and anything with caffeine. I say bring it, worst case scenario is they hold it until Parents Weekend.

This - and taping a knee is going to be pretty conspicuous. If it is bothering the OP enough that they feel like they cant get through the summer without taping the knee, then it should probably be reported.

My interpretation is that if OP is seeking medical assistance with it, and they said PT, it should be reported. Maybe it has ‍♀️?

As a runner, just going to throw this out. A runner will know that certain running programs may result in the early development of shin splints and patellar tendinitis- both of which can be somewhat relieved by strategic taping. Athletic tape is in the arsenal of many runners as a prophylactic treatment. So I guess the question is whether or not such taping can be performed by the individual, by USNA staff, or not at all. It does not necessarily mean an unreported injury or conditions.

I get that and agree.

My wondering is surrounding OP stating they have an injury and are seeking medical intervention. Physical Therapy.

The tape is a whole different thing. Especially if taping an injury worthy of PT, that isnt reported. If one brings along medical tape, it may show they have a condition/injury/propensity they are injured. That may be problematic? I don’t know.
