What should new cadets wear on R-Day? And what tips do y’all have that may help us get through the day?

Wear shorts and tee that they dont care about. My DS wore his low quarters.
Have him/her pack their stuff in large plastic bags to make for easier transfer.
You shoukd wear comfortable clothes. Take a walking tour of the grounds, dont forget the cemetery. Go to any briefings, especially supts. Get to parade ground early for a seat.
Dont leave until the doors slam.

Doors didn’t slam last year...was a bit of a disappointment!

Remember anything they bring they have to carry around all day IN ADDITION to everything they will be issued. Even luggage with wheels must be carried, it's not Annapolis where they get cute little wheelie carts to roll around. Less is best..

After Beast any room/school needs can be addressed..

My son is a firstie and this is his advice - the key to getting through Rday and Beast is to remember two things: They (cadre) can't kill you and they can't stop the clock.
When things were crappy, he kept those 2 things in his mind and that helped him get through it.

If you opt to wear black socks and low quarters with your shorts, you won't be the only one sporting this fashion. It saves a step later on in the day. Put on sunscreen before arriving as you will be out in the hot sun quite a lot on Rday.
Congratulation on your appointment.

My son wore his running shoes, shorts and a t shirt. Had boots around his neck. Everything else inside a backpack...all in about 3 or 4 big ziplock bags.

Keep it simple.

Very possible you will be waiting in line for a looong time in Sun and heat before even saying goodbye to your family. Wear comfortable shorts and shirt, nothing that stands out. Church clothes not needed !!

Several years ago NCs were told to wear black socks and low quarters. Now you can wear your tennis shoes. Be comfy...it's a long, hot line. You change into PTs very early in the process.

Doors won’t slam this year either. [emoji79]
Doors did not slam last year, but several started leaving prior to the last cadets entering and the doors closing. Very powerful image to see the final cadet walk in and the massive doors close behind them that some missed.
Also, it is a respect thing, to all the NC's as they start what will in all likelihood be a very tough 6 weeks. Just cause your NC may be in the first company , there are lots of others to still go in. Take it all in, and relish it. It's very moving, and stay until the doors close, regardless of the "lack of slam"

Running shoes, black socks, comfortable shorts, plain t-shirt. Go light, you won't be wearing it long but you may be doing pull ups in it.

If you are wearing the running shoes and black socks, you are that much closer and easier to changing into your PT shorts and t-shirt.

I wouldn’t have changed anything! I would still have taped till the doors closed. I was expecting the slam of the doors as we had been told it would happen and was a bit disappointed when it didn’t. I meant no disrespect and would never leave in the middle of any event or parade.

Nah, that wasn't pointed at anyone, and apologize if you thought I was directing that at you. I was advising the parents of the NC's (in a couple of weeks!) that sticking around til the doors close is expected and to depart prior to that is viewed as disrespectful. Pretty sure that there are signs that ask that you stay until the last NC has left the Plain. It can't be any hotter than it was last year, right? Hard to believe we have a year behind us, R day seems like it was yesterday!

It was pretty hot! Guess I’d rather have that then a downpour! My DD had AA1 and got home for a few weeks before CFT. It went so quick for me but DD thinks plebe year was longest of her life! Lol

When you say black socks do you mean just dress socks?

DD says that all in all it wasn't as bad as she thought, though she certainly had some rough times. She also had AA1 and heads back next week. What company is your DD ?
