I finally got a break with summer and I wanted to post my "resume" to see what thoughts people had on how I could improve myself in the eyes of the Academies (primarily West Point). I'm a rising Junior so I still have a little time but I've been working for this my whole life so sometimes the anticipation can get to be a lot. Not asking anyone to "chance me" just give me a few critiques so that I can strengthen my chances of getting a nomination and being accepted.

Academic:
- 3.9 Unweighted GPA and 4.3 Weighted
- I have taken every Honors and AP Course that I is offered
- I will be able to take AP's in every branch of science and math available (Chemistry, Physics, Earth Science, AB/BC Calculus, Statistics)
- I am in an advanced math class ahead of others in my class
- I go to one of the most challenging school's in my area and we have many graduates each year that go to high profile schools including the Academies.

Athletic:
- I will be the starting kicker/punter for my school's Varsity Football Team and we will be competitive for a State Championship
- I will be on the Winter and Spring Track Teams
- I am a very good kicker and I believe I could be helpful for the West Point Football Team

Extracurricular:
- Eagle Scout
- I am joining NHS and I plan on working to become an Officer

the biggest factor lacking in your application is leadership roles. I understand that you just finished sophomore year, so it might have been hard to obtain those positions, but going into your junior year you should focus on becoming captain of your football team, president of a club, etc. Leadership is an extremely important part of your academy applications. good luck!

Use this summer to practice for the SAT or ACT. If you can afford it, take a prep course. If not, do a lot of practice tests. Agree that leadership is something they look for. If you became captain of the football team as the kicker, that would be amazing. If not, look for other leadership opportunities. If your kicking is good enough, they will recruit you.

I got a 1360 on the PSAT and I'm getting ready to take the SAT and ACT soon.

Keep working on those scores, especially the math section. SA's weigh the Math section more heavily than the Reading being STEM schools. Khan Academy has good tools you can prep with for free and there are several good paid options as well. Summer is a great time to work on test prep and get those scores where you want them.

Also just a word of caution, test scores are only one piece of the overall WCS. If you search this message board you will see students with 1500+ SAT's who get TWE's every year. Work hard, do your best, and put forward the best application you can.

Also, look into Boys State between your Jr and Sr year of HS. Great program and will add points to your application.

Assuming academy needs a kicker that's the biggest leg up you can get. Are you good enough to kick in D1 ball?

You need to find ways to lead / drive change in the organizations you're in and then be able to articulate that leadership though your essays and interviews . Are you active with your OA Lodge in scouting?

Also consider the ROTC scholarships there's some great military colleges out there, if you're absolutely set on Army there is University of North Georgia. The others Norwich, Citadel, Tex A&M , Va Tech, Va Mil all a great schools with different things to offer

I believe I'm good enough to go D1 but I would rather just use it as something to help me get into West Point than into any college. I'm not that active in my OA Lodge but what did you have in mind regarding it? Also what did you mean by

UNG is unique among the four year military colleges in that it only offers Army ROTC.

As for the OA Lodge the OA seems to be the most youth lead of the Boy Scouts organizations so it would be the place where you could demonstrate leadership. Its generally not hard to get yourself on the Lodge Executive Committee

Thanks for the advice I'll look into all that
