Just leaving Annapolis after an awesome I-Day experience. Excited for the Plebes. Where and when are Plebe Summer photos posted?

I would highly recommend joining the USNA alumni association photo program. Instructions were provided in the PTR last year. You can also find links online.

Additionally, there are a couple dedicated amazing sponsor parents that regularly take and post photos on the main parent FB pages. Message me if you want info about those, don’t think I can discuss here per forum rules.

There is also another NASBD vendor person named Larry Thornton that offers a subscription photo program. Between Thornton, Alumni and FB, literally thousands of photos to download. I actually bought a tablet to look on the go.

There is NOTHING better to make your day then seeing your plebe doing something with a smile. A little bit of “ahhhh....he’s ok...and actually smiling” to help parents through the 6 weeks!

Please show your appreciation to those photographers who do this not because it’s their job but because they’re deeply devoted to USNA and the mids. I’m thinking folks like Toks Fashola, Khanh Tran, Bob Peterson and others like them. They are amazing in their output and their dedication.

Bob Peterson's photos are just amazing!

What about Larry Thornton and/or Legacy? Are they worth the $? Has anybody used either/or? Both?

Personally, we subscribed to Thornton and Alumni. Between the two, got a great representation. Volunteer/parents aren’t necessarily allowed access to all areas (think those awesome o-course shots...some of my fav’s. Also if they go indoors because of weather). So impo, worth a join. For ME, Legacy was too expensive. And I already had pics of my guy that they offered. Legacies pics are viewable online and then you can decide if you want to join. If I didn’t have my pics from the other sources already I would have considered subscribing to Legacy.

It’s kind of a puzzle. All photographers can’t be all places all the time on your Mid. So one parent may have a ton of their Mid, while another may not. BUT, like with all things Navy, be patient. Eventually all platoons are represented.

Forever grateful for the photo Angels MidCake mentioned. Don’t miss those! And they are free. Not as abundant.

Adding: for Legacy, you will need their alpha number. Which is on their canteen. Or ask them for it in first communications.

We used Thornton, Alumni, and Legacy for plebe summer. I was a little “extra” and spent too many hours going through all the photos but there were a lot of my mid so I was happy! Thornton is more difficult to navigate than necessary but there were good photos so was worth it. He consistently posted too. The Alumni had good shots as well definitely worth it. Legacy covered events for my mid that the other sites didn’t cover like boxing. We used Thornton for plebe year portraits and were very happy with them. We have a DD so a littler easier to spot in all the phots but it will still be a full time job going through all the photos. Like others have said join the main parent sites on Facebook as some parents and photographers consistently post hundreds of amazing photos for free like Bob Peterson and others. I think I collected over the summer about 150 pictures of my mid.

Also regarding Legacy, last year if you forgot to ask your mid their Alpha number you could just email Legacy and they gave you the Alpha number.

I am not finding Legacy pics online. Their link for "View This Years Plebe Summer Photos" has only an option to buy a digital download. Any idea what I might be doing wrong? Or do you think they may have changed their systeM? I have already gone through the Alumni pics of IDay twice and nothing. :( Guess I'll just go cry myself to sleep now! ;)

Welcome to plebe Summer Parenting. I feel ‘ya. The highest high when yours is caught in a grip of pics (especially the first one!!), sadness when everyone else seems to have that great capture and you have NADDA. A couple things to keep in mind:

When the go black flag, photographers don’t have as much access to Plebes. BC they may be inside more than normal.

Photographers take thousands of pictures and that takes a minute to process and download.

Do you also subscribe to Thornton? Message me if you need his info. Belonging to more than one program, you will eventually have your platoon photographed. Thornton explains how he photographs Plebes. Legacy, as I recall, is very slow. They didn’t have even the option to purchase/view until later in the summer.

Do you belong to parent FB pages for the Photo Angel parents/volunteers/sponsors? Bless them. But they have real lives. Bob especially is very good at getting every platoon at big events like parade practice. You will also have random parents on the yard at various time, catch a group.

LASTLY....you WILL eventually get a plethora of pics, if you subscribe to a couple programs and belong to parent pages. It’s still very early. They are just getting going.

LOL. "just getting going" Let's not remind them of that. :biglaugh: (39 days, 22 hours until PPW) Yeah, and actually I did find my first Waldo in the USNA's IDay video on our drive home, so that was nice. Got a good freeze frame shot. It sounds like I am too early to view Legacy pics. We had seen Thorton, but had taken the advice to wait and see what we get from Alumni before paying for more. It's ridiculous how much time I have spent on perusing pictures & video since Thursday (so much posted on Facebook, by the aforementioned angels and more), it is too addictive. (I am doing this INSTEAD OF playing Candy Crush. Unthinkable!)

If you have only one photo service, you will need to be patient. When they are on your plebes platoon, it’s a jackpot as there are tons. Then you hit a dry spell. Dry spell can be longer with one service. I found Thornton very reasonable and was very happy. And it’s not an addiction....it’s our job! There is no way getting around the time required to hunt. I have mentioned I bought a cheap tablet to hunt on the go. Good luck!!some of my favs were the O-course and sailing.
