So I received an email today (about 3 weeks before NSI) that I must run faster than a 13:30 1.5 mile. I thought that I would just have to meet navy minimum standard and have therefore been training to meet that. I am trying my best now to train to meet the faster time. But, does anyone know what would happen if I did not hit the 13:30 time on the first day of NSI? Would I forfeit my scholarship and be sent home?

Not sure what would happen if you don’t make the standard they sent you, but if that’s what they’re telling you to do, that is what you do.
Training to meet minimum standards is never, never how the Military trains. Training and preparation is done to exceed the goals of the evaluation, not just pass.
We used to say all we ever did was train how to train.
It was monotonous but we were good at what we did.....

Didn’t you have to take an Applicant Fitness Assessment Test already? (Maybe not if you are a Collage Programer, In which case I think they give you more time to meet the fitness standards)

Most likely lots of personalized attention from the Midshipmen Instructors. Do yourself a huge favor and shoot to get below a 13:15. It’ll make your life a whole lot easier if you can get an 11:30, but with 3 weeks left that might not be doable. I think the reason for the cutoff is that most MIDN last year with below a 13:30 were heat cases on way too many PTs and got injured easier bc they were out of shape

You may want to clarify with the sender of the email or your unit coordinator. It is my understanding the timed fitness tests that are important are at the end of the three weeks before graduation. Work hard on speed drills and intervals in the coming weeks, set the mph on a treadmill at goals speeds and run out the 1.5 miles as fast as you can to train your body to “know” your need for speed. Then get outside and run to “memory” as well. You can do it. In three weeks you can rip out a nice PR for this short distance. Remember, too, that you will be working your fitness at NSI and one of the leading goals is to prepare you. They work you to get you where you need to be.

If you don’t hit that time on either test then your scholarship won’t be activated until you pass the PFT which you can do at your unit after NSI is over. They won’t send you home if you fail but it will be reported to your unit.
