This forum was invaluable, as a parent of a candidate, Plebe to be and now a Plebe. Yesterday was a day I won't forget. Advice and comments from this forum helped us to prepare and have an idea of what to expect. Thanks so much to everyone! I know I'll be here for the next four years, at least.

I second that thought and sentiment. Everyone has been very helpful and I especially have appreciated the tough love and push back. Day before I-Day I was checking this forum in our hotel room in Annapolis and DS looked over my shoulder and said, “You know, I never joined that forum but I read it almost ever day.” Old guys like me (without real skin in the game) can afford to ask the dumb questions and make the dumb comments (and sometimes get fried) but it’s the lurkers (like my son) who benefit most from the no-BS insights of the been-there-done-that veterans.

What a great writeup from those who truly understand “appreciation!”
I admire all parents who assisted and guided their DS/DD to serve this great country! This forum is truly amazing since there are many humble but extremely intelligent people/experts who want to help parents and their future leaders.

I hope that many SA applicants can join this “Thank you-club” in June 2020. Fingers are crossed! :)

Again, congratulations!

...Yesterday was a day I won't forget...

I think you are spot on. I will always remember seeing my DS in that stupid whiteworks outfit, thinking "Man, he looks pretty good". ;)
Yes! Hilariously accurate. From the first time I saw them I thought the whiteworks were so dumb looking, designed to demoralize Plebes in their frumpiness. Completely awful. Then Thursday, seeing MY Plebe in his whiteworks, I am thinking, "Wow, he makes those look GOOD!" LOL

The white works actually get better. Once they are washed and then hemmed they fit a lot better and don’t feel like a burlap sack anymore. They actually are rather comfortable. Over the next 10 days or so you will see them with that Dixie cup and tennis shoes eventually wear white works with the neckerchief, combo cover and leather shoes. They don’t wear them during the academic year.

I actually thought it made the plebes look like they were just "playing soldier". I'm looking forward to seeing them when they fit properly. I'm sure it will look a little better. Not as nice as summer whites, but at least it won't look like they are wearing daddy's clothes.

Ooops. Forgot to address the original intent of this thread. I would also like to express my gratitude for everyone who helped along the way. I've asked questions about academics, majors, foundation program, medical waivers, etc. I've also read threads about boyfriends/girlfriends, I-day, plebe summer, after service careers, sponsor families, holidays, cruises, etc. It's been fantastic and this site is something I visit multiple times a day.

I am 3-1/2 months shy of 2 years as a member here, and I still get a kick out of all the posts. The established long-time posters have a ton of knowledge, and I appreciate their sharing of it.
I also appreciate all of the new posters who are experiencing everything for the first time. They have a fresh view of everything, that is often great to see.

Back in the day before there were warmup suits, we wore whiteworks over gymgear on days when we had PE and also when sick, lame or otherwise not fully fit and by then, having been washed a hundred times, were very comfortable. Some folks chose to hang out in them when studying or lounging in the Hall.

NOTE: Post plebe summer, the whiteworks uniform no longer includes the neckerchief nor dixie cup.

Actually, post-plebe summer, the white works uniform ceases to exist officially. (It can return as the base for a clever Halloween costume or for a cameo at 100 Days.)

It used to exist as a uniform during the academic year. It doesn’t anymore. We actually used to all wear them during reform in August for a few days while we got uniforms out of storage. As mentioned we also used to wear them with PT gear on PE class days or when we were broken. I wore them a few times while on crutches. Then again we used to wear long sleeves and ties for most of the academic year too. Things change over time, not drastically, just minor tweaks.
