My Navy Option DD just arrived back home from CORTRAMID west last night. It was a great experience for her, and did what I think the Navy plans for it to do: gave her real exposure to all the warfare communities, and a chance to talk with young officers about their experiences. If course she had the most fun in aviation, but the other weeks were great, and she even said Marine week “was not as awful as she feared.” She also met MIDN from all over the country, and that really added to her sense of the breadth of people she will work with as an officer. Really grateful to have her back home, of course, and very glad (and proud) that this experience was inspiring. Good luck to all who are headed to CORTRAMID East in a few weeks!

Not sure if this is why...but general rule of thumb...if you live east of Mississippi River, you go East...if you live west, you go west...unless there are mitigating circumstances that require otherwise.

My 2C Navy Option DS just returned home also. (We live on the East Coast but he was sent to CORTRAMID West.) It sounds like it was an intense experience, and a great experience. He saw a lot, learned a lot. Survived an encounter with a stingray.
:)

Didn’t know they could do that. East worked out better for my son because BC had a study abroad class in Italy. He just got back from that and goes to Norfolk on 7/22.

she learned a hell of a lot more than me when I went back in my 4/c-3/c summer, that’s for sure. I just learned how important sunscreen was once my friend’s entire back started peeling thanks to the beautiful san diego sunshine

My DD is supposed to be going to CORTRAMID East. She has not received ANY info about it. We thought it is supposed to begin 7/10. But she has no info...no travel info, a list of things to bring, etc. Is everyone who is going to East in the same boat ( lol, pun intended)?

Yup. While my son is brilliant, details sometime evade him. Thanks to this forum I set him straight on the date. As of this afternoon, he hasn’t heard anything.

So what dates do you think EAST will be? Your previous post mentioned 7/22, while I thought it began 7/10.

I was under the impression that it was July 10 start date, but my son has not seen anything for travel yet. Also, he heard that Kings Bay is out again this year, that they will head to San Diego for sub week. How do they get travel plans/plane tickets, are they emailed or mailed/shipped to them?

Yes, my DS got his travel instructions a couple of days ago for 7/10. They were emailed to him.

So far, my son got a Request and Authorization for TDY Travel of DOD Personnel, DD Form 1610. Still not sure about the airline ticket, should that follow in another email, or is he responsible for purchasing his own ticket? He is studying abroad and not due back in the USA until tomorrow night, 7/9, and is supposed to fly out 7/10 to CORTRAMID East. Trying to help find out information and plans, but having some difficulty.

Seeing that it’s the 8th, you should get in touch with someone from his unit. With my son, the tickets were emailed to him directly.

just an FYI, my DS has already been told they’re going to San Diego for sub week.

Yikes, Cortramid East Marine Week was at Camp Leguene. With this heat, it must have been brutal. My DS survived though. Said his unit prepared him well.
