Any sponsored preps/self preps in the SAP at MMI next year?

One of my daughter's friends from school did not get into the Air Force Academy, so she recommended MMI to him. He has been accepted. I think it's pretty cool that the HS Battalion XO and the Battalion Sergeant Major will be at the same school.

It will all work out for the best, I believe that God will place my DS where he should be at stage in his life. I only worry about how at 17 years of age, his views of being rejected. He will be where he supposed to to be, His older brother is already at the Academy.... Siblings is just that, there is no preferential treatment. Either you get accepted or you don’t.

Parents please don’t worry, their journey is just beginning...

Has anyone done the uniform measurements? If so where did you go to get this done, I know it gives directions but I heard it’s probably best to have someone who knows what they are doing measure my DS.

If you are not comfortable measuring your cadet, find a seamstress. They normally have seamstress in dry cleaners.

Just wondering... why did you choose MMI over the other options? thanks!

I heard from some people that they had a better program. However, I heard from a cadet from a few years back to try to go to Georgia if possible. But then that cadet made a strange comment about not wanting the Coast Guard that passionately, so I figured i’d stick with what I heard from the first people.

We weren't able to visit MMI, but did visit GMC. The campus is small but very nice. The whole area is very quaint. We were very impressed by the USCGA cadets and other students we met there as well as the cadre. The program is tiny - 24 USGA sponsored cadets, 1 USMA sponsored cadet. Lots of individual attention which was fabulous, but seemingly no track record for self sponsored cadets. Had my DS been lucky enough to get sponsored, GMC would have been ideal. However, he is self-sponsored and so he felt MMI was the better program to help him get an academy appointment.

What does it cover?

It depends on what the dollar amount is of your plan. We did a 2+2 tuition only plan for our son 16 years ago. That in dollar amount basically covers 1 year at MMI. So basically he could do 4 years of college tuition only in Florida or the 1 year SAP at MMI. He was going to enlist after being rejected. We convinced him to do the SAP program and hopefully get an appointment or an ROTC scholarship. If not he will enlist. He has wanted to be career military since he was 6.

So if you get both the Presidential and the foundation what does that bring your cost to? Or can you only get one? I thought I saw someone who said they got both.
Presidential is a percentage, Foundation scholarships are a specific dollar amount. My DS's tuition ended up being mostly just room, board and uniforms.

Hi guys, our daughter will be attending this fall with a softball scholarship & doing the SAP too.
