The ceremony was very fast .... very. We were there when the gate open. They started on time and including q&a which followed was less than an hour. We were also able to exit and get on our way quickly.
Quick recap of ceremony and Q&A from memory.
The live stream is being converted for replay and will be in the NROTC FB page soon for folks that missed or would like to rewatch.
Phones were taken. They get them back the night before graduation.
They got some pretty goofy looking shoes and socks at check in /processing which took all day (said with love and a little comic relief ... hard day to witness) Marine Option got the standard green PT set. The Navy kids got some more goofy looking PT gear. They also all were wearing backpack hydration bags. They all looked pretty miserable and maybe a little pissed off (more comic relief ... sort of). There was one happy clam though who waved to his parents. LOL. I suspect he may have a little “follow up”’on that. There was no contact with family. They marched out (as best they knew how ) and that was the last we saw them.
The Q&A after the ceremony which was great for parents and family. I don’t think that was filmed. It was pleasantly casual with lots of ya know .... parent like questions. I had one of them. I mean .... my kid is a super pale ginger, she must wear sunscreen
They will wear their new spiffy summer whites to graduation and it sounds like get most all of their uniforms and sea bags as well at the end. They can certainly wear their own comfies to travel after leaving. They would really like the kids flying to wear their new whites, however.
Tomorrow is continuation of processing and then July 4 is the 1st day of real PT. . There is a killer fireworks show there that night open to public. I sort of doubt these guys will partake.
In the issued ditty bags they got toiletries and sunscreen . They will be doing plenty of their own laundry.
Rise and shine is 5:30am and lights out is 9pm sharp. PT isn’t every day. It’s split up somehow by Alpha, Bravo and Charlie companies. That said ..... we all know there will be plenty of that. There will be the expected PT protocol to include swimming.
Sounds like there’s still a learning curve with this new program. I suspect the flow could be slightly edited for 2nd block.
There were a surprising number of parents there. I suspect many more will be there for graduation.
Word is there are only a handful of Nursing Option scholarship winners this year. DD hopes she meets some of them there..... among the 500 attending block 1. They have a CROWD! It sounds like there are 900 overall so 2nd block may be a bit smaller.
Yes. Guys all had fresh bald heads.
Gosh. That is all I can seem to wrangle from quick memory.
