My niece is about 5'3" and just started R-day last week. She's tough as nails but her height has me slightly worried. Surely she can't be the shortest woman to survive. Does anybody know what the shortest USMA female height was? Am I being overly worried?
Thanks,

(uncle) Jon

I agree with mom3boys. As a side note, you may want to consider changing your member name if Jon Rosenfeld is your real name since this is anonymous forum.

As they say, "it's not the size of the dog in the fight, it's the size of the fight in the dog."

The XO of our NJROTC unit was below 5'0"" She won the Navy National drill competition at Pensacola in April in the pushups event with well more than 100. She had been disqualified for enlistment due to being below the minimum height requirement. But when word of her pushups medal got out, the Navy re-measured her and determined that she was actually at least 5"0" and she will be reporting to Great Lakes. So, if 4'11" can do that, then 5'3" can achieve gigantic things.

Army Standard is 58 inches for men and women though administrative waivers are possible. She'll be fine at 63 inches.

AR40-501 - Chapter 2
2–3. Height and weight
a. For both men and women, height below 58 inches or over 80 inches does not meet the standard. The height is measured and then rounded to the nearest inch...
d. USMA, ROTC, and USUHS candidates for admission to the USMA, ROTC, and USUHS who are over the maximum height or below the minimum height in tables 2–1 and 2–2 of this regulation will automatically be recommended by Department of Defense Medical Examination Review Board for consideration for an administrative waiver by HQDA during the processing of their cases...

Check YouTube, Surviving the 1st year at US Military Service Academies. It has info on all the service academies, but there is some good footage of USMA.

She is interviewed throughout this documentary. At about 47 minutes into the video, she discusses her size and some challenges it presented. She also talks about 6' 4" guys looking to her as an inspiration during march back.

Hi! I know Beast is almost over, but I am 5'1 and made it through. Your niece will do great if she is tough and determined like some others said above. I will say that some of the physical events can be challenging. We still carry the same weight as those who are 6' or taller, we run together, and we do the same obstacle courses, but height won't be a deciding factor in her success. If she wants to be at West Point and if she is prepared for things to be just a little more difficult, she will be fine :)

My roommate is 4'11 and an amazing athlete and has completed Air Assault, passed every test, and is just amazing in general!

Can't wait for her join the corps! Hope this helps
