Hello! I unfortunately did not gain admission to USNA c/0 2023, but have been working on restarting this arduous process. Re-applicants--did you completely rewrite some of your essays for congressional nominations, or did you supplement/edit them? I am trying to get a majority of this process done over the summer, because I will be slammed in the fall semester (I will be at VT for Engineering and in the Corps).

You have to assume they will pull your file from the last cycle and compare. If the essay responses are the same or essentially unchanged, reviewers might wonder about effort level. Look at old responses as a foundation source - you now want to show growth, continued success, new insights, increased maturity, redoubled determination to get to your SA destination.

The only reason I ask is because many (almost all) of the essay prompts for my senators and congressman are the exact same prompts as last year.

Of course...and I would expect the USNA application to be unchanged (except for tweaks). No surprises, they are looking for the exact same things..but the reapplicant has to do something to achieve a better result. (Who was it that said that "insanity is doing the same thing time and again but expecting different results). I concur with CAPT MJ that simply recycling your old application will raise questions about your effort level, but more importantly, you need to take advantage of the additional year ...what have you learned, why are you different than the applicant that applied last year. That's why I tell my reapplicants to defer writing their personal statements etc, until they have a couple months of college under their belt (if MOC deadlines permit). Most kids do a lot of growing during that first couple months away from home.

.
A resume usually changes in one year.
.
Essay questions are usually What you value, What you want, and Where you want to be. Your answers, ideally, should be “Timeless”.
.
But, no answer or product is ever finished or complete. Let it sit over night and look at it the next day ... and do that for many many days.

If the questions are the same for your MOCs, the content of your answers may be largely the same. But, as others have said, you can bring a slightly different perspective to your words now that you’re a high school graduate, have endured rejection, have chosen a college path, etc. You want your essays to reflect that increased maturity, clarity of thought, etc.

Contact your the person that processes your MOC applications and ask if they have a streamlined procedure for re-applicants. Many will pull your file from the prior year and only need certain items resubmitted and any updated info.
