For anyone interested in something to do in the summers of your junior and senior year, I would suggest looking into SLCDA. It’s a week long character and development academy that teaches leadership. It’s at Marine Corp base Quantico and the camp itself is free, along with the flight travel being payed for. While there, they talk a lot about the different ways to commission as a marine Corp officer. You hear from numerous panel speakers, wear cami uniforms, do PT and early wake ups, and get to go into Humvee simulators. You also do not have to be in JROTC or have a military background to go. The camp itself is very competitive to get selected, with over 1,000 applications and only 120 selected by the board. If anyone on here is interested, I can answer any questions. If you look up SLCDA online there will be a application page that probably won’t open up until near winter time. This camp was very influential for me, so I suggest that rising juniors and seniors interested in academies or rotc look into it!
