Hi! Just wondering about getting the right or best type of items on packing list for DS. Please share what works what does not or any tips you may have on some of the items. Thank You!

We just started shopping today for DS. We purchased a laptop, towels, pillow, sneakers, undershirts, socks, and backpack. I’m looking on Amazon for garment bags. We are in Florida and with this heat my DS is always wearing T-shirt and exercise shorts. From what I read no T-shirts allowed and a belt is required for males in civilian attire. He never wears collared shirts or shorts with belt loops around the house. I’m wondering if I should buy him extra PT clothes from MMI to wear as his casual clothes since that’s what he basically wears all the time.

The belt/no tshirt requirement led us to believe they want civilian attire to be reflective of the cadre when not in uniform. We are packing a pair of jeans, a pair of khakis and a pair of golf shorts, plus one long sleeve shirt and one golf shirt with a blue blazer and a tie. We figured my DS couldn't go wrong with that.

Very simple and appropriate. I would think if they were attending something dressy enough for the Blazer they would be required to be in uniform. I am driving back up for parents weekend so I can bring him other clothes then. Hopefully somebody that has had a son or daughter attend MMI will chime in before we leave for the first day.

We had a similar thought about the blazer and tie. But we figured if he had it and it spent the entire year on a hanger, that would be the better mistake to make! Look foward to meeting everyone in 3 weeks!

Your child will nave no need for blazer and tie. Send one pair of jeans and one pair of khaki pants. 2 golf shirts and a button down. Send one coat/ jacket... no sports coat.

Checking in to see what parents of female cadets are bringing for their civilian attire? Thinking khaki pants/khaki shorts and nice shirts? Looking forward to meeting everyone.

In an unrelated conversation with MMI yesterday, it was recommended that my DS pack bandaids for blisters as they break in their new boots. Thought I would pass along.

Can they bring their own boots or is it required they wear issued boots.

I'll have to defer to those who've been through this before. I will share that I did have a conversation with MMI about what kind of boots to bring and I was told they would be issued. I do know USAFA advises what boots to buy but MMI does not. Draw whatever conclusions you want from that!
