Okay, this may sound like a dumb question, but someone asked me, and I just want to verify that I gave them the correct information.

A recruited athlete who has already been told that they would have to go to the Prep school to improve academics still has to follow the same application process, correct? Still have to apply to USNA, go through DoDMERB, BGO interview, Nomination, etc.?

Yes. Same process. If they are a basketball or football recruit they won’t do a BGO interview.

These are football recruits. I was shocked to see them “commit” on Twitter to Navy. I didn’t think that was possible. They are extremely low academically, and I was told they were heading to prep school. They didn’t seem to understand that they still had to go through the application process.

The prep school is exactly for that purpose I.e if someone has to catch-up academically. If they meet the standards, they will be accepted next year to academy.

We hear of this every year. Put a big asterisk next to committed. They are committed if they pass DoDMERB and receive an appointment to NAPS. Technically USNA does not participate in the National Letter of Intent program. So when a recruit ‘commits’ its verbal until they receive an appointment to NAPS or USNA and sign the paperwork.
