Vague answers on my website that just say around mid October. Is this true?

Very much so if that’s what is posted. And it may be different for each nomination source. It’s imperative that you check and recheck deadlines.

Best solution is to contact the MOC's office and speak to the staffer in charge of nominations. He or she is a good person to know and to establish rapport with.
  • Don't wait until the last minute.
  • Get proof of delivery of the application and support docs. (registered mail, Fedex/UPS or hand deliver it.).
  • Always be polite and professional in your interactions.

Our DS has 2 with firm dates, and one that just says 'October'. All mail has been sent with signature required, emails have been replied to by POC at MOC's office, he is retaking both SAT and ACT in next 4 weeks, we will likely have to rush the ACT scores since they closing date is 15 days after test, and he will call to verify they have them in their hands. Our last SAT score request took SAT 2 weeks to 'fullfill'. Pushing deadlines is not a great idea if College Board is involved. Good luck and introduce yourself to the MOC's point of contact and be polite and not pushy.

Get an actual date for each MOC. Don't assume they are all the same. Our senators and congressman had different dates. Of course you don't HAVE to wait until the closing date...

Also, check about updating scores and such after submitting your application. After my son submitted his applications last year, he was able to update each MOC with new SAT scores, leaderships positions, etc...
