NROTC Rank?

Hey guys,

Is there a ranking system in rotc units, specifically NROTC? If so, does it mean anything, or is it kind of like a miniature simulation. I thought I read something about it somewhere but I could be wrong.

Thanks

Not really, at least not in my son's unit. There is a Chain of Command, so a squad leader will "rank" a squad member, a platoon leader will "rank" a squad leader... but those billets change each semester and a freshman squad leader (4/C) might have a senior squad member (1/C). There is no "rank" that stays with you and you progress up the "ranks". I suppose other units might be run differently.

My unit ranks, you find out once a year when doing FITREPS. It goes into your commissioning package overall in the sense that you’re ranked against everyone across the country, so just gives you an idea of roughly where you’ll land (if that makes sense?)

Agree with FastFood. I didn't read ranking that way in my initial response.

Are you in NROTC?

+1 to AROTC-dad. NROTC MO doesn't do MOS assignments (which is what the Navy's nationwide list is used for) until the tail-end of TBS. How you stand at the end of TBS determines where you fall in the complicated pecking order of USMA MOS selection. It is not as straightforward as the other services. I do not know, but would not be surprised, if midshipman performance and OCS ranking are part of this; but I do not know that. In any case your performance at TBS will be by far the biggest factor.

Don't know if this answers the question you had or your purpose in asking it.

EDIT: BTW, people with an aviation contract are not part of the selection process at TBS.
