To help out with the desire to have a less censored forum opportunity, would there be any problems by the creators of this site, and interest by the readers of this site, if I were to set up a website called Uncensored Service Academy Forum. Just wanted to check so that I did not step on any toes or copyright issues. If there is interest, I would be glad to host something, perhaps not quite as sophisticated as this website of course. We could change up the name some more if it looks like there is copyright issues, by all means. Thanks for the input.

You can do what you want ... I don’t think it is necessary and wouldn’t participate.

The wealth of knowledge of members and tremendous searchable info here trumps whatever “censorship” anyone feels imo.

This site was fantastic when my son was an applicant.

It’s the not the site but the wealth, depth and experience of the valuable contributors that matter.

I’ll stick and be loyal to these people.

Speaking as a member here, not as a moderator.

I do not consider moderation as "censorship." The mission here is pretty simple: help facilitate information that is useful to officer candidates. Hence, disputes, disparaging remarks, abusive statements are not helpful to that goal.

There is no shortage of other websites that are untethered and fractious. Those who feel that we are too heavy handed can go have at it on those forums.

I serve as a volunteer here because I value the expertise, civility and sense of community that is maintained.

What he said ^^

The way this site currently works is fine for me. Mods help to keep topics from spinning out of control and ban people who are needlessly argumentative, have some personal ax to grind or are obnoxious and try to run over others who have a different point of view. There are also enough interested people who will speak up when someone posts misleading/inaccurate information. SA's are also a category on another well know college forum site and the information provided there is USELESS. FAR too many high school know-it-alls are constantly posting inaccurate SA information and mods make NO effort to keep things under control. Many regulars who are here gave up on that site and only post here.

Any forum type website needs moderators or else they rapidly spin out of control. I am sure there are many un-moderated free-for-all social media platforms where people can rant, post nonsense or inaccuracies for anyone who enjoys that sort of thing. That is part of the reason I don't use any of them...............LOL.

First thing that comes to mind is entertainment. What you might do is start a site for those that have been banned from SAF and some of the more thick skinned folks that are still members. Then once a week throw out a controversial talking point.

Some good stuff might stick to the wall after being thrown against the fan blades.

Now that'd be a hoot!

Forums already exist for everything. I'm sure there are plenty of places to speak with like-minded or non-like-minded people on a plethora of subjects. Probably even bacon. Go for it!

I'm trying to remember the last time I chortled.

Add a snort to your chortle, and you’ve got snortle, even better.

I think of the mods as guardrails to keep us generally on track in terms of civil discourse. We can bounce from side to side but don’t go headlong over the rails and defeat the purpose of the forum. I have no doubt they laugh their heads off at some of the thread derailments and directions. 2019 - Year of the Bacon Thread.

The bacon thread feels like a break room at a progressive firm that offers free snacks, nap pods and table games.

I'm not sure you would want to pay the costs for a site with a moderate amount of web traffic. I'm not even sure who foots the tab for this one.
