If you don’t hear back by 4/21, you didn’t receive a direct appointment correct?

he is the only person from his summer seminar group to not be appointed
I feel for your son, and all who have a TWE coming tomorrow. Our family has been through the TWE process many times. Daughter went to Summer Seminar 2019, had Presidential and Senate nominations, top scores, straight As in difficult high school courses, college work, great letters and leadership, triple-varsity athlete (captain), etc. Not sure what USAFA was looking for this year. I only know that one of the nine other candidates on the Senate slate was better, at least 100 other candidates were better in the Presidential category, and at least 150 were better on the NWL.

I feel the same exact way. I wish I didn't have to see that godforsaken envelope tomorrow. lol.

Still hopeful for Prep School maybe. I'll do anything to get into this school one way or another

“If you don’t hear back by 4/21, you didn’t receive a direct appointment correct?”
My DD has a congressional and a presidential nomination. If she gets in with a presidential appointment is that considered a “direct appointment”? Is that one of the ones she would hear about by tomorrow OR just the congressional?

Direct Appointment is going straight to the Doolie year at the Academy. Regardless of nomination source, whether it be presidential or congressional. This would be opposed to Prep School/Falcon Foundation.

That doesn’t seem to bode well for those that have heard nothing yet. We’re pretty set on our plan A2 at this point, but a little mystified as to why he did not earn an appointment. I know the system is a big mystery, but he really could not have presented a stronger application. He has Type 1 AFROTC scholarship, and is thrilled but the non-select for Academy definitely stings.

I feel the same. Also received a type 1 AFROTC which I am excited about, but I put 10 times the amount of work into my academy application and received a senatorial and congressional nomination. I am thankful that AFROTC its not concerned with where you are from and other demographics, but is a national points and interview based application. I have heard that all the appointments could go to the same state and it wouldn't change who has the most points towards a scholarship. Excited to start plan B in the fall, I don't think Ill re-apply since Ill end up in the same place through AFROTC.

Agreed !!

If I hear nothing all day tomorrow, isn’t it a good thing to an extent because that means I will be receiving a PS spot or the falcon scholarship?

That’s odd, most people think their child is wholly unqualified when compared to others. What were the outside factors that got the other kid in? I hope it was truly salacious..everyone loves a good scandal.
Not at all salacious.

My son could have written this. He’s still toying around with re-applying but I have a feeling he will be very happy where he landed. There were so few Type 1s given this year, he’s honored and proud, and I am happy for him to be a lot closer to home.

The other kid is also a phenomenal kid from a phenomenal family with a strong history of military service. If I was building a class, I also would have made sure he had a spot. There’s nothing untoward or unfair about the selection and I am sorry if that implication was there. I would have expected both boys to get very early appointments, frankly.

Yep. And either way there is going to be a lot of emotion
Wait

Currently writing this at 1AM EST, going to wait till 5 when the portal changes.

Though we all come from very big places, it always feels like we are a big family because of this entire process. We are in this together.
So its 5 but the portal still says under maintenance
