A question on height/weight requirements.

Is there a grace allowed for height/wt standard? ex if someone ( female) is couple of lbs over the published scale, will that be marked DQ? I see that they allow for tape measure also.

I don't know about prior to arrival--but you will do height and weight on R-Day and once a semester. There's no leniency on the standards and they will put you on the body composition program if you do not meet it; they will tape test if you're close to the limits.

Ht/Wt is not a medical DQ assigned by DoDMERB. Exceeding the Army standards is an administrative action under the Commandant of Cadet's authority.... Command issue :wiggle:

so what happens if someone comes out as couple of lbs more on DoDmerb day? Is the candidate given a timeframe to correct the remedy and send back the results for further consideration.

I don't have direct experience with this, but someone I know who is also appointed for this year is out of the ht/wt standard. Back in JAN, his RC mailed him a letter to require him submit a body fat test by a certain deadline.

txfwindian/s-xuer - If some doesn't meet the Army standards on "DoDMERB day," we notify Admissions. :wiggle:

s-xuer -/txfwdindan - That's the response Admissions provided the applicants after the above:wiggle:

My DS had to deal with this as part of the admissions process and has to deal with it every semester at WP. He is 6-1, 210lbs of solid muscle. That is outside of the Army’s parameters. He did the tape test prior to arrival with a local recruiter and does it every semester. It is just a ratio of neck to waist circumference. He passes that easily. Heck, even the guy that “tapes” him every time has to get “taped”.

Honestly, the tape test is a joke. I understand wanting your soldiers to look physically fit, but what matters most is performance. I’m not going to hate on a guy for barely passing a tape test if he’s a PT stud. Some people are just naturally large or have huge muscles. That’s no reason to DQ them.

The Army has MANY regulations (standards). Height/weight, PT, hair/grooming, uniform, are just a few. They have “standards” for many reasons. Training, uniformity, mission readiness, troop safety, etc. While certain standards may not always make sense, they always have a purpose to support the overall mission. Also keep in mind that standards change with the times, the mission, and Command. This must be understood and supported by our future leaders lurking this forum.

I was above the weight standard on scale alone by a couple pounds, if there are no problems with PT and you pass the tape test you won’t have any problems. If you start to slip, there are programs in place to get you back on track. For now, do what you can but focus more on being fit physically than weight. Good luck!
