Can I wear my combat boots the day I walk on campus to have more space in my backpack? or will this be frowned upon? Haven't seen anything specific on what to wear the first day there

My ds wore his low quarters to keep breaking them in
Do we hand in our phones before we transfer the items out of our bags? I heard from some cadets that it might be a good idea to bring an AY backpack and a water bottle for after beast. Would these items be surrendered along with our phones or just kept in the trunk?

Wear your sneakers and tie boots to the bag if necessary (make sure you can until them quickly). You will change into your low quarters shortly.
You hand in your phones (as of last year) when you transfer your items out of your bags. If you can fit everything in a backpack (black, no contrasting logos) then that is fine, but it will be stored until the Academic Year.

When packing, should we take into account the items we will be issued once we arrive (with regard to space)? Also, at what time do the Cadre wake up plebes during an average BCT day?
You will be given a large duffel for all issued items. Wake-up time depends slightly on your company, but was generally around 5:30-5:45.

Don't worry about that. And we were woken up at 0500 on the dot each day last year. YMMV.

During Beast, PTs usually because it’s less changing for PT formation.
School year, depends on the class year. Plebes still probably mainly in PTs. Upper class start to get into civilian or team related gear depending on class privileges.
For contacts, unless something changed, you can bring them to have for when the academic year, but no, you will not wear them during Beast. Don’t try to hide them either. At some point you’ll do the gas chamber, and wearing contacts there is a fantastic way to mess up your eyes permanently. You’ll be issued glasses and expected to wear them
