Yes .... daughter (NAPSter) arrived Sunday and was awaiting a direct, whom she said was arriving Tuesday. They told her this when she processed through on Sunday.

Son reported on 30th. No comms since he went through the gate. Didn't expect any, surprised some are. No parent in our company parent group of plebes has heard from their kid since through the doors of Mother B. I am guessing some compnaies more or less lax then others. They are all where they worked hard to get and will make the most of it, I am sure. Our kid was hoping for a Naps or prior enlisted for a roomie, he could benefit from their seasoned experience and see another aspect of entering the academy other than direct.

I finally caught a freeloading squirrel in a live trap last night. Delivered him to some vacant acreage a ways away. Wrote about it in first letter to him. Maybe that can inspire the mouse trap game.
Next care package will include mouse traps, the old school victor type, 1st package had peanut butter so he will be set! Let the games begin 🐭

Hot sauce! We couldn’t figure out why that was in the goodie-bag from the parent group - now I know!

That smell. White works with whatever fabric finish is on there, fresh sweat, dried sweat, fear sweat, aged sweat, fermenting sweat, plus regular grime and dirt. I arrived for duty in the summer and had never smelled anything like that, concentrated funk, in a no-AC (at that time) setting. Especially when they ran by in formation, they left a lingering vapor trail of Eau de Plebe.

Capt MJ, loved your description of the "aromas". But did your DH never bring back a multi-hop flight suit that possessed all, if not more than, the alluring scents of Eau de Plebe? The “essence” of Naval Aviation flight suits may one day be experienced by some of these plebes again. They will remember the smells of the summer of ’20. For now, I hope that they are given some good hygiene training during PS!

They do not have their phones with them, but they do have their laptops which are necessary to complete briefs, academic placement exams, and a few trainings. They definitely are not supposed to be using the laptops to communicate with friends/family, view social media, netflix, etc. They’ve all signed Page 13s agreeing to only use the laptops for specifically authorized purposes. Clearly some are not following through. It’s on the midshipmen assigned to monitor the Plebe ROM to enforce the rules but some companies are taking it more seriously than others.

I was sort of thinking this was the case. My kid was really aware of not being the plebe that caused his company to suffer so never even considered getting messages calls or emails from him. Radio silence makes this mom happy in this case. He is doing it!
 
My lurking on this site started 3 years ago and culminated with DS drop off yesterday. Not sure how people do it without the info I gleaned from all of you and I will be anonymously very grateful forever. Both DS and his parents were fully prepared - except for how efficient the drop off was 😂.
DS was able to check in via phone about 4 hours into processing just before his phone was confiscated. We are all anxious for the ride and can’t wait until first call. Thanks again to all of you.

DS is practically a robot when it comes to rules. He was really worried about zoning out and surfing youtube the most. The other apps, etc should be easy to keep off limits if they even could open. If instructional videos are on youtube, then clicking the next video without realizing it may bite him.

Wife has me doing the things that makes her happy. I wish I had our little girl here to help me clear brush and repair barbed fencing. It sure is hot today .... Our little girl likes to help. I feel like a One-armed Wallpaper Hanger without her sometimes.

I’m so sorry there will be no parades this summer. That was a great opportunity to see plebes “in action” before PPW. Better times are just around the corner for sure.

My understanding is they were permitted to write home either as first letter home or just while people were still checking in. The email was so bland and stiff I feel like I was a template or something they were asked to write. Then few hours later they were asked to stop any emails as everyone had arrived by that time near late afternoon/early evening on I-day 4. Things are different with folks arriving over 4 days this year. My son only had his phone for about half an hour after he finished inprocessing and got to his room.

Are there any locals that have been poking through the fence down on the Yard to see what is going on? .... Anyone with Binoculars?

Maybe DW and me will venture down there in the next couple days to poke around a little .... Sure beats clearing brush, and my current project, replacing a foot bridge.

That lasted only until all 4 days worth had checked in--essentially the end of "I-day", no different from previous years. Because they had to have laptops to do placement exams and online versions of some of the classroom instruction while in ROM, the usual "mandatory letter home" this year was an email.

BRILLIANT! Care package going out tomorrow is still open and has room....already had single-servings of peanut butter for dipping cheese crackers into....stopping by Home Depot to get mousetraps, today!
