2020 Army/Navy Game top be played at West Point

I tried to find what came after that, but alas, I cannot. But it resulted in this auto generated immediate response:

And just think that was probably only half the Brigade as many Mids ride up with friends and take weekends! It is a sight to see. Not sure if the Dant or Supt might give some leeway to 1/C and 2/C to drive POVs. It’s either that or the entire Brigade by bus which is probably close to 90 buses???? I am guessing it’s around ~50 Mids/bus? A company is probably around ~140-150 these days???? So 3 buses/company x 30 companies is roughly 90 buses. Throw in the travel party for the Supt, football team, cheer team, D&B, it’s gonna be around 100 buses total headed to West Point over that weekend. It will be a long day, but Mids will accept the challenge of demonstrating their ability to sleep anywhere, anytime!
He specifically said 167. Bc also social distancing requirements ON the bus. I wasn’t exaggerating actually. And that includes the whole brigade, BC not keen on POV’s, for a 5 hr o/w trip. In the mountains. In the winter...

167 isn’t shocking. Sit with your room mates then a row in between groupings. I hope the Mids are rowdy and loud at the game!

Never count your chickens before they hatch... records mean nothing going into the Army-Navy game. In addition, with the depth (or lack thereof) of most Service Academy teams, one critical injury can change the entire look of either of the teams.

Army's schedule has not been very tough...but, man it has been fun watching their 4th and 5th string QBs out there...looks like the team is having a blast and making the most out of this crazy season.

It will be a good game. But, first #BeatAirforce

I like the idea of Navy taking a train to the game. I think that's much better way than being cooped-up in a bus for xx hours. Amtrak certainly has the rolling stock currently being under utilized used.

I'm sure the TV ratings are normally pretty high, but I'm thinking this year's view will break the record books beyond belief.

Cool idea, and image ..but not practical.. Unless you can load and unload the train directly on the USNA Yard and Offload at West Point (or easy marching distance ), you have to have transport to and from the train station, and load three times. That whole evolution is certainly more complicated and probably longer than simply loading 167 buses and making the Midshipmen suffer for 5 hours. Personal comfort has never been high on the list of military planning priorities (except perhaps for the Air Force).

There’s an old railroad station literally on West Point on the rail line that’s now been purposed for freight trains. The passenger rail line is on the other side of the river. It’d be interesting to see if they could get permission to use it

The tracks that are along the river and below the Fort Montgomery Battery seemed to be in use the last time we were there but the path from the main AMTRAK North/South lines would not be simple as passenger trains don't go that way and the freight company (CONRAIL?) would probably put priority on business/freight use.

Other Metro North experts can chime in, but while the Hudson line runs up the east side of the river, I think there are a handful of passenger trains that run up the west side (the Port Jervis line? Pascack Valley line?). Not sure if they could switch to the freight tracks though to access WP.

The line through Harriman, just west of West Point is a joint freight/pax line.
The line along the west side of the Hudson that runs through West Point is freight only. I’m not sure what would be involved in running pax trains on it.
The east side line does stop just across the Hudson at Garrison. There is a seasonal ferry service but they are not that big and usually are pulled from the water by the end of November. The squids could always commandeer some boats to take them across.
I imagine it would be easier/cheaper to use an existing service, maybe contracted to use more cars.

Mids and Cadets attending that game has less risk from a COVID stand point than weekend liberty out in town or the overnights they will get at Thanksgiving.

I second this. In the last three weekends, DD has been out and about — DTA, the mall, sponsors’ home. She has mixed and mingled and otherwise been in close proximity with many who may or may not have been positive for COVID. She’s been cautious, but nonetheless out and about. So far, she’s been fine — KNOCK ON WOOD. But I believe she’s at far greater risk from those escapades than she would be from going to WP for the game (which is not that different from the time she spends now with her company, her club team and her classmates).

(And I’ll say it again: KNOCK ON WOOD.)

Many parents wailing that the SAs are endangering their babies for the sake of a football game.

Well, it's a LOT more dangerous for them to travel home for holiday break. Cars, and trains and planes and many people all over the country. So, under this theory, the mids should not only skip the game but remain at USNA for holiday break. Just sayin' . . .
