When do rejections come out?

I would just hate for the academy to lose out on such a fine young man due to a lower than average test score. Yes, I am his father but he has all the tools and the results to back up my claim. He has been dreaming for this since he was 12. His plan B is already in place scholarship or not.
I completely agree about the test scores. This year was so difficult in trying to take the SAT. My DS has fantastic grades, varsity XC and Track, multiple leadership positions, serving on a current Congressman’s educational task force, Boys State...the list goes on. He was only able to score a 1280ish and that knocked him out of the running for USMA. We’re waiting on a couple more of the SA’s but they are truly missing out on a great future leader if he’s rejected because of that score.
He did receive an AROTC scholarship so he’s breathing a sigh of relief if nothing else works out.

There are different AFROTC HSSP boards. If your DS says eligible, you're probably on the February board instead of the December (I believe) one.
Correct.

His portal shows “Your scholarship application status is "Eligible". Your AFROTC Scholarship interview has been received and processed. Your application will meet the next available selection board, scheduled February 22. Results will be released on or about March 5. You can check back here to view the results.”

So how does one know if you’re a “Finalist”?

The candidate will be notified. The February Board results don’t seem to be out yet/posted.

How do you know if you’re a “finalist” for an AFROTC scholarship? DS son’s portal says “STATUS: Eligible”. I see nothing saying ”finalist” or “semi-finalist” status...
where it says eligible it will say “scholarship offered”

Is there an expected time for this today? Or It happens when it happens?
It’s not necessarily today. The portal says on or about March 5. Could be anytime next week. There is a separate thread on the second board if you want to look for that.

My portal showed the exact same thing this morning. It has since changed to March 30th. I assume they just got delayed in putting them out.

This doesn't seem like a good sign. Does this mean candidates will be competing against the 3rd board as well??

Folks...quit trying to guess/game the system. NONE of you know a thing about how this cycle has or is progressing and guesswork will only build the level of anxiety.

When offers are made, they'll appear...not before.

Patience...the toughest part of the process.

I know this has been covered here a lot, I read a whole thread about moving forward with plan B and if an appointment comes, jump ship (so to speak LOL).

My DD has been accepted by 6 of her 7 plan B’s. #7 is dropping decisions next week. Here is her dilemma:

Her second choice after USAFA had already offered her a solid merit scholarship. Yesterday they sweetened the pot by offering an athletic scholarship (D1 school). The coach is asking when she will be ready to commit. This is understandable, they are trying to get their team together, align roommates, etc. She was honest and said the only thing holding her back is the wait for a USAFA appointment.

Sooo, when it came to putting some $ down to hold her spot at the school that was a no brainer. What should she do in this case?? She said she will feel terrible committing and then telling them no a month from now should an appointment come. She also doesn’t want to miss this opportunity. Any suggestions?

Certainty and Clarity are good feelings. Your daughter has to make the tough call, but I would suggest proceeding with the best option she has today and should things change in the future, address it then. There are no guarantees here in the SA admissions process and you should not jeopardize an attractive offer. Today, she does not have clarity on her USAFA status, but she has certainty and clarity with this other school.

College is a small period of time in the scheme of things and you would have to compare both opportunities in context of a much larger time horizon than just 4 years. If an appointment offer came later for USAFA, she could then evaluate two clear options. It is hard to pivot when you think others are relying on you, but at the end of the day you have to take care of you. She has worked very hard to get to this point of having options - but only she can make that choice. While difficult, having options is a fantastic position to be in.

Thank you so much. I just took a screenshot of your reply and sent to her. That is pretty much what my DH said this morning.

That will be the 17th. (From what we've seen on the appointment thread)
I'd say, from what Insider posted, that you'll start to see them next week...what specific day? Who knows, that'll depend upon the USAFA computer system.

FYI...the area was hit by a really big snowstorm last night/today...that might impact things.

Then again, it might not...
