Report Traffic Violations to USAFA?

Hello! I’ve read about a dozen times on various academy forms that if I’m ever involved in anything serious or have a run-in with the law between the time of my appointment and I-Day that I should report it immeadiately to USAFA and my ALO in a hand written fashion. I’ve always glossed over those sections because they never pertained to me and I have no criminal background and not even a single traffic violation... until today. This afternoon was pulled over by an officer for speeding and was lucky enough to only receive a written warning. No citation, no ticket, no points, or fine. I understand that this written warning will stay on my record but should I still report it to the academy? More importantly, do I need to include it on SF-86 for the security clearance? I’m not familiar with this and don’t want to sweep it under the rug if there is actually something important I need to do.

I’m making a new thread for this because I hope the discussion will address a broad scope of things like this which could benefit many more appointees than just myself. I’m hoping there are a few ALOs that can comment as well with some advice in situations like these!

Thanks in advance for your help!

If this is some sort of a PSA, then you need to title your thread differently. Misdemeanors vs. traffic infractions/citations are two different animals altogether. You didn't receive a ticket, let alone a misdemeanor conviction.

Additionally, who told you that "this written warning will stay on my record"? What record? Your state department of motor vehicles record?

Okay I’ll rename it. I didn’t know what to title it so I just picked that. I did some online reasearch and basically concluded that since the warning was a printed one and not just a verbal warning that I can expect it to show up on my record if my background was searched.

Edit: Renamed thread

No worries, just need to make sure that you are clear in what you are stating!

As far as a written warning being on your "record" - that probably varies by state. Your ALO or Admissions Team can likely give you the info you need.
