I was just reading the schedule and I noticed that there is a full week between the end of BCT and A-day, and then another 2 days after than until classes begin.

Just curious- what happens during that time?

For BCT - all first year students and staff are housed in Vandenburg Hall. During transition week, you need to move rooms. This could also mean moving buildings for members of 3rd and 4th group (squadrons 21-40).

General summary of the transition week:
Acceptance day parade
Move into your semester 1 room - load in clothes and get the place inspection ready (easily hours of effort)
Get books
Get computer and thus write all your friends because of internet availability.... oh and realize all of the official emails you received during BCT
Get uniform parts that were tailored (this dribbles out and is not all at once)
Get academic schedule and figure out where those classrooms are
Go to briefing after briefing after briefing on a wide array of topics

It's a fairly chill week and your first taste of freedom since arriving on campus. You are not really free, but you have the liberty to manage your own schedule to some extent as you work through the list of things that need to get done. It feels weird because up to this point, someone has escorted you around to every place you needed to be when you needed to be there.

You will first of all move to your academic year squadron, get briefs about how a typical cadet day is like, how classes work, will likely get to meet your instructors. You will also get tours of Fairchild hall probably and just transition from doing what you are told to do to living your own life
