USAFA New Tab on application SAT Scores

My boy has a new tab on his USAFA application portal that “displays your superscores for the tests we have received from SAT and ACT.” We know his SAT was fairly good, but they converted it to the specific content areas of reading, writing, and math - everywhere we look it’s had overall SAT composite scores and not the converted SAT, so just wondering what is good scores in each content area that will make sure he is competitive. He’s hoping his numbers are good now, but just in case he’s already scheduled for the December test to try increasing even more. Also, does the new tab mean they have been reviewing his application or is it an update to all completed applications? His date to have everything in was November 1 and he had all parts completed except the nomination before this date.

I checked DS' portal and the ACT/SAT scores are the exact Superscore numbers on the websites of ACT and College Board. If you created an account for ACT/SAT you can view those same scores there. I do not think there was any conversion done by USAFA, those were actual section test scores from the source.

If you print your score out from college board it breaks it up into those areas on it.

The website also shows how your scores compare with others who took the same test, by State Rank and by National US rank. That gives you an idea of how well you tested in percentile.

Anyone know how long it normally takes for the score report to update on this page?

I received my ACT scores back from my 23 Oct 21 test a while ago, but they appear blank on this page. I know the admissions team is absolutely swamped after switching to Salesforce, but want to just make sure the delay is normal and not something unique to my kit.

Thanks

You are 100% correct, I pulled up his last two SAT’s and the three test scores are a combo of his best effort in each area. Thank you so much for pointing that out, we couldn’t figure out how they converted it but that’s because they just used the breakdown off his score report. Thanks again!

I knew how his overall score was, which compared pretty well. I guess we just got confused seeing them use the three test scores instead of the overall composite score.

Do you have a green check mark in the Checklist for Test Scores? For that, it only appeared on September based on the very first score DS submitted. He ordered the scores submitted directly before he tested because his first test was June 2021 (we're in CA where tests mostly got cancelled).

The tab with actual scores only appeared recently, not sure when. But it had DS' scores until Oct 2.

For test scores, USAFA admissions said (after DS emailed asking for info) they update continuously until 28 Feb 2022 for scores received from the testing agencies.

So for example an 800 is perfect for math SAT, and weighed more highly than the English from the point system I looked at. English can be broken into the 2 parts, but 800 is perfect total too for that.

Yes we understand the SAT composite scores and how those were split, the problem was in the new tab that showed up on his application portal today it split the SAT into math, reading and writing, all based off of the 40 point maximum test scores, not the 800 max section scores. We didn’t realize they were using the test scores section off of his SAT score report, we thought they converted his math and reading scores to equate to ACT point system. But luckily Candd82026 pointed that out for us and I just looked at both of his SAT score sheets to see where his percentiles were based on those numbers. Fingers crossed they are high enough and he gets a nomination, and appointment 🤞

Does USAFA look at ACT reading? It only shows ACT math, English, and science for me.

As for "converting" scores to-from SAT vs ACT, there's actually a formal/standard table for that to assist colleges because some students only take one kind of test. They call it "concordance"

For DS' scores, there's no significant difference between his SAT/ACT once you look it up in the concordance. The scores ended up "equivalent".

I don't know what's up with mine. I took the SAT but they put in in ACT format for the individual subject areas. When I lined up what they showed me with an SAT/ACT conversion table but it does not add up to what my scores were on my SAT. Does anyone know how they converted them? Are they percentile?

The SAT individual section scores should be in your report, it's not a recalculation on USAFA's part. Those are scores out of 40 based on your individual test reports. Go to the collegeboard website and it should be there in the test score details.

That's what I'm seeing too, it only shows my 26s on each subject. Kind nervous since I recently got a 30 on my English and it hasn't updated yet.
