Hello all, I just joined this forum to make this post after seeing similar ones from a long time ago.
I was disqualified for "History of Spondylolysis or Spondylolisthesis, congenital or acquired" this past week and I immediately want to try to appeal the denial of my waiver request. I am in the AFROTC program and I need all of my studs (including a medical clearance) by 31 January 2022 in order to be considered for Field Training this summer.
1a. I do have spondylolysis, a member of my family is a radiologist and they did and read my X-rays after I had mild back pain in junior year of high school during college visits (2018). Since then, I have played football and ice hockey for full seasons during senior year (2019-2020), I have worked a summer job where I had to stand for 6-7 hours each day and climbed around buildings, I have scored highly on my FA, I do regular strength training, I shoveled snow as a job for every winter since, I have moved in and out of many places, etc. etc. all without a single instance of that back pain returning. I've even done color guard for 6-7 hours of straight standing for a football game without pain. I do not take nor have I ever taken pain relief medication for these instances of pain.
1b. I am asking:
If I have absolutely no symptoms of this condition currently or within the past year or two (at least) then why is this a disqualifying factor and..
2. If I am to seek an appeal:
- Is it possible to have this decision appealed, and a waiver granted for my condition?
- What would I have to show or prove or demonstrate in my appeal process for this waiver decision to be appealed?
- How soon could that be done? (not as important as those two^ questions)
Any help is appreciated and I am grateful for all of your time.
