Trying to schedule an appointment with the oral surgeon for DS ‘s wisdom teeth extraction. I noticed that it has to be done 8 weeks prior to in processing day. This only leaves this week and next. Do we need to inform anyone at DoDMERB or USAFA before doing it? His teeth are asymptotic but partially erupted. We thought it would be best to have them removed beforehand. Thanks

Hi. My son is in the same boat. Where did you read the extraction needs to be done a minimum of 8 weeks prior to I Day?
Thanks

No.

That said, the "actual applicants," the applicants to the Academies....as opposed to anyone else....

need to send the post extraction clearance (cleared for full and unrestricted activities) to their DoDMERB Case Manager:wiggle:

thanks. I am sure the paper work and directions are all in my son's DoDMERB account..... Sorry, I have not seen this website or know anything about it. I'm just a father and a dentist who wants his son's wisdom teeth taken out before he leaves and I don't want to put the cart before the horse.

Mr. Mullen:
My DS just got his appointment today 18 April for USAFA. He has his wisdom teeth removal surgery on 6 May, not enough time for 8 weeks by one day. Will this affect him?

Try and call the oral surgeon and explain your situation. Sometimes they can fit you in earlier, such as when I got mine out. Originally the appt was a couple months out but a scheduling conflict came up, so I called and said they had a cancellation for the next day. I took it and got them out! It was a special case since I have a small jaw, so they had to cut through some muscle to get through the teeth. The discomfort went away around two weeks after and I was able to fully extend my jaw without pain about a month later. I believe the eight weeks is to be safe, but call them and see if they can get you in sooner. You might get lucky!

WISDOM TEETH:

Comply with USAFA Admission instructions. Failure to do so “may” have an effect on an applicant’s medical status for Admission.

Other Academies, comply with their instructions. If they haven’t provided instructions, consult Admissions:wiggle:
