Due to an unexpected change, my 16 years old daughter needs to stay at Newark Airport overnight by herself on Friday June 10th. Her returning flight is at 9:10 am June 11th. But the hotels all have age limit for checking in.
Is anyone going to stay at Newark on that day who can help in this situation?

The surrounding area of Newark airport to include Newark, Irvington and Elizabeth is not the Safest of areas. Her safest place would likely be in the airport itself in the checked in areas. I’m not aware of any hotels inside Newark airport but if there is, is their an online / app check in available? I have checked in and out at numerous hotels without ever talking to the staff or going to the front desk.

Hmm... I have never used app check-in. How do you get access to the room? Don't you need a key card?

You do not, you can use the phone for everything, but double check that the hotel you use has this option.

Agreed my DD stays at the EWR Marriot as well. The shuttle runs often, and is accessible via the Air Train. It's an easy process getting to the Hotel and once in, it's safe and secure. Marriot will work with you to get your girl in.

In the Image, the hotel is circled in red. There is nothing closer and it's the easiest to get to. From the front of any of the terminals it dominates the landscape. Several of us have had our Cadets there and there usually are a few of them around.

I called three hotels nearby Newark Airport including Marriot, Hilton, and Renaissance this morning. They all have an age limit. They do not allow a 16 yrs old to check in by herself.

Have her reach out to the SLE folks. Guaranty this isn't the first time this has come up.

I had a conversation with my DD about the current situation. She said she would just stay at the gate if no hotel. As a mother, I feel so sad!

My DD is not yet 18 and will be staying at the Newark Marriott at the airport by herself on the way to SLE. Call the hotel and ask to speak to the manager and explain your situation - he was very helpful. The front desk/reservations person that you will get when they answer the phone won't be able to make this decision. You will need to write an email stating that you accept all responsibility for your daughter and her actions while at the hotel and also that the hotel has no liability. Make sure you tell him why she is there and that she is very responsible (assuming that she is) You will need to give her a credit card for incidentals, etc. They can put a note on the reservation. You can PM me if you like.

Thank you so much for your detailed information. I will follow your instructions to call the hotel.
