It was a little gut wrenching for us to see yet she will go to a civilian university if she doesn’t make the cut. My last roommate ay USAFA attended Texas A&M as part of their Corps before getting the chance to attend USAFA the following year. That was like completing two consecutive "Doolie" years. He did well at USAFA.

There is no way to guess what the current admissions priorities might be (order of merit, diversity, athlete, geographic, etc.) at USAFA if an appointment should become available. It is not a good assumption to assume that any newly available appointment will go to the next best qualified nominee.

You haven’t been lurking in the USNA ‘26 waitlist thread? My DD is still in limbo there. The wait is brutal. Could be another month even.

They told her there was no wait list at USAFA yet we hear every year how candidates are chosen late so we aren’t sure where they are chosen from if there is no wait list?

I have never applied to USNA before so I haven't... my goodness. I am praying for you tonight. Good luck to your DD!!!!

A list often “implies” a ranking. 1 thru 100. And with a ranking the next one on the list would normally be the next one to get an appointmeant.

It seems to be more an unranked group. And number 57 not number 1 might get the next call.

Why?

Number 57 might have something unique to offer even if an objective ranking might show them lower.

(An observed opinion not an absolute fact)

Wow! Congrats! I can't even imagine waiting so long! Be prepared to buckle down and get busy on the appointee kit come June 1st! DS just submitted his yesterday, after working on it for 2 months, granted he was still in school and playing sports for much of that time. I would go ahead and get appointments for any immunizations she might need. The polio was difficult for us to find. DS also needed a tetanus booster, flu shot, and meningitis. As soon as you receive and accept the official appointment in the portal, I highly recommend joining the parents of 2026 Facebook group. It's a wealth of information coming directly from the parent liason. Best of luck to you all!

Thank you! We just got home from receiving all of her vaccines!
 
Congratulations! Don't forget to add her to the Class of 2026 List/Thread. I hope that we see a few last minute appointments!
