I wouldn't call... a bunch of us are in the same boat. Looks like the only Ohio appointment in the list was an LOA.

My son held onto his ROTC scholarship until about the 2nd week of June last year for a "just in case something went wrong". They did start calling him to see what he was going to do so they could free it up for someone else.

Not an LOA--but son had a Presidential Nomination, so Appointment was given in October prior to MOC interveiws. (I've noticed there aren't any Ohio appointees on the USAFA list either)

I was wondering about this also. Did you do all the paperwork etc required for the ROTC scholly, or just accept and wait until June? We are in the same situation. He's accepted USNA and Ohio State ROTC scholly, with full intention to go to USNA, but would like to keep the back up in place as long as possible.
 
Just got a letter stating im scholastically qualified. Passed medical and physical. That means 3Q'd.
 
To those of you who have received your "blue folders" with official offers of appointment I offer congratulations. Between now and I-Day on the 1st day of July will be some of your most pleasant memories. You are happy, family is happy and proud, everybody is telling you how smart and wonderful you are. Enjoy it because it will end on that 1st day in July.

While you have been waiting for your appointments, on the yard another group started their selection process towards I-Day. Last November the current 2C were informed it was time to sign-up and volunteer for Plebe Summer assignments. They competed for these assignments with full on interviews. Not everyone who volunteered got selected. Over the past 2 weeks or so each Company has informed it's 2C who has been selected for Plebe summer duty, the role they are assigned ( Squad Leader, Platoon Sgt., XO, CC, etc) , and if they are 1st or 2nd set Cadre/Detailers. None of these terms mean much to you now but they will starting July 1st. For these midshipman, Plebe summer will be one of the most intense leadership experiences they will have while at the Academy. They have lessons to learn and you are the raw material they have to work with. It will be their job to turn individuals they consider "dumber than ####" into midshipman that can be presented to the Brigade upon its return in August.

As I stated earlier, enjoy the accolades the next few months will bring you because come July they cease rather abruptly.

Son's ROTC PMS called him this week once we heard about the USNA appointment. He asked him if he would make his decision soon, since his out-of-state scholarship would be given to 3 instate kids. PMS wants my son at his school badly, but does not want him to pass up USNA. "ROTC will be there next year if needed, USNA will not knock on your door again"

Son said that he will make the decision as soon as he receives the official paperwork. He won't believe until he sees it!

NROTC scholarship we will hold onto until he hears back from his school, and then make that call.

AFROTC Type 1 scholarship requires no commitment until May 1, but still waiting to hear back from school...so I'm sure that he will decide once he hears back from that school.

2 full rides at 2 other schools. He'll keep one through the summer as his backup.

He'll try to release all 3 ROTC scholarships as soon as possible.
 
For everyone who have their appointments congratulations! For those still waiting don't lose hope and stay positive.
Some words of advice though: If you have received your appointment, I know it's hard for some to make that decision and sign the acceptance or denial. But I highly advise making that choice soon. Some of my classmates waited until the very last second to return the paper work and some people who received appointments did the same. This causes two problems first you are essentially sitting on something that someone who wants it is waiting for because you can't decide if it is or is not for you. Or you may be sitting on a ROTC scholarship or other scholarship that again some people are hoping for to see if they can even go to college.
Feel proud that you received the appointment because no matter how worthless of a person your detailers will tell you, you are, you deserve it! If you are having a hard time deciding go off for a long walk or a long drive, something by yourself and really think... do I want to go to USXA (or USXXA) or do I want to be a pilot or do I want to be a doctor, etc. And think about what you want because when you show up here on I-day and throughout plebe summer and throughout this year you are going to need to look back to that day to find the inner strength to keep going because no matter how much your parents or teachers, etc. want you to accept it, you're the one waking up everyday and putting the uniform on. So, don't take this lightly because this is a drastic life change but I know for me it has been the right one :wink:
So again congratulations to the class of 2014 I hope everyone is getting ready to go and again those still waiting keep strong and if you don't get in this year and you really want to go to the Academy reapply!

I'm from NE Ohio and have yet to hear. Although I believe three students in the town next to mine all received LoAs. 1964BGO would know for sure.

Some of my classmates waited until the very last second to return the paper work and some people who received appointments did the same. This causes two problems first you are essentially sitting on something that someone who wants it is waiting for because you can't decide if it is or is not for you. Or you may be sitting on a ROTC scholarship or other scholarship that again some people are hoping for to see if they can even go to college.
Feel proud that you received the appointment because no matter how worthless of a person your detailers will tell you, you are, you deserve it! If you are having a hard time deciding go off for a long walk or a long drive, something by yourself and really think... do I want to go to USXA (or USXXA) or do I want to be a pilot or do I want to be a doctor, etc. And think about what you want because when you show up here on I-day and throughout plebe summer and throughout this year you are going to need to look back to that day to find the inner strength to keep going because no matter how much your parents or teachers, etc. want you to accept it, you're the one waking up everyday and putting the uniform on. So, don't take this lightly because this is a drastic life change but I know for me it has been the right one :wink:
So again congratulations to the class of 2014 I hope everyone is getting ready to go and again those still waiting keep strong and if you don't get in this year and you really want to go to the Academy reapply!

To those of you who have recieved an appointment - congratulations! Now...

If you had communicated with other colleges that you planned to enroll with them - please - contact those institutions and let them know you changed your mind.

I am maintaining a wait list of students who would like to attend my state maritime academy. I know a lot of students who have sent in their enrollment confirmation to me - are actually waiting to hear if they got an appointment to a service academy. I cannot move students off wait list - until I get someone who had confirmed their enrollment with us - officially withdraw from our Academy.

In fairness to those on wait lists for other colleges/ROTC scholarships/etc., please be sure to officially withdraw from any programs you have decided to not take advantage of.
