My DD is not a recruited athlete. She is scholastically qualified. She is waiting on a waiver from USNA for a condition (that Air Force and West Point waived). What are the chances she will get picked for NAPS ? How many slots are open for NAPS for the class of 2011 ? Thanks, dad

correction - NAPS - is it a possibility

meant to say DD also has a nomination

Camille, NAPS is between 250 and 300 students/yr. That number includes recruited athletes, prior enlisted, and under-represented minority applicants.

As it's been explained to me (son was NAPS '07), an applicant who's been identified as "scholastically qualified" is not a candidate for NAPS. That said, there are always stories floating around about exceptions to every rule.

Good luck.

Agree. Typically, NAPS/Foundation is given to folks who need additional academic prep. If you don't need it, it doesn't make sense to send you to NAPS/Foundation. However, there are probably exceptions to every rule.

Having a nom is not relevant for getting into NAPS. Obviously, it is for a direct appointment.

NAPS questions

1. My son got a nom for USNA and was offered a poition at NAPS, which of course he accepted. Will he need another nom next year to go to USNA if he graduates from NAPS?

2. I have read where some NAPS candidates got a blue folder in the mail with a cerificate (of acceptance?) and background check information, etc. Other posts have said not to expect to hear anything until June when directed on where to download paperwork. What is the truth?

Thank you!

1. My understanding is they are encouraged to re-apply for nomination because there is only a set number of SEC NAV noms which is less the average enrollment of NAPS. If they have a Nomination from the President, and I think the VP the need not reapply because it will carry over, MOC noms will not.

2. My son sent his acceptance form in on the 23rd of March, received blue folder in the mail with a certificate of acceptance, and background check form, etc. on March 26 or 27th.

That should answer your questions. Let me know if I can help more.

Blue folder!

Happy, happy day! He got the blue folder last week!! He got his signed letters and birth certificate mailed back and the police background check done. What a relief! Now I just have to keep him "bubble wrapped" until I-day! Ha ha! Good luck with that, right!?

Thanks!
