  • Thanks for the reply to my message below. I try to not bug my ds too much. He stays pretty busy between school, rotc, and a girlfriend, so we don't talk a lot but he did call last night. He said, he didn't not get a CSO slot, but he is just an alternate for a UPT slot. I guess whoever told him said that he could be put in a CSO slot if he didn't get a UPT slot...which I am just guessing since he mentioned a CSO slot. Again, I am a little lost but he will get what he gets I guess. Anyway, I was wondering if he does not get a slot anywhere then what happens to him. Also, since he is an alternate, is he considered one of the 90 who didn't get a rated slot. A girl in their ROTC detachment got a RPA slot and she said she was going to ask to go before the next board and my son said he might too. I don't think it works that way, but I guess their cadre will tell them you get what you get. Thanks for all your help!
Hey Pima, my ds received a CSO slot and is an alternate for pilot slot. He seems fine with it, but he seems confident that he will get a pilot slot. I don't want him to be disappointed...I think the CSO slot seems pretty interesting too. He said cadre told him that the alternates would come from the CSOs if that makes sense. My ds said there were only 25 alternates (I know he didn't mean for his detachment, because they do not too many more than that for the whole detachment), which doesn't makes sense to me...seems like there would be more. I wish I knew more about how the military works. Let's say they do pull from alternate list when would that happen. Just wondering how all this works and what it means. Thanks, Annette
My son is a freshman at ERAU. Not currently on scholarship, 100 in DET 157 Majoring in Civil Engineering 3.77 GPA his first PFA score was 96.9. Last Friday he increased to 99.7.
Matt also "walked on" to the baseball team didn't officially become a part of the roster until the Spring semester. Matt has no medical issues
Matt graduated from Woodrow Wilson in Long Beach, CA (student body population 4500)2 years Varsity Baseball - Senior year leadership positions include Varsity Baseball Captain, ASB Treasurer-Fall, ASB President
    - Spring Matt was scheduled for and went for an eye exam and DODMerb exam about a week ago. I read in a post that AFROTC doesn't
waste money on DODMerb for cadets unless for Scholarship or FT. Does the timing of DODMerb mean he will be getting offered a scholarship?? or just that he is being strongly considered for scholarship? Or am I simply just a wishful thinker? Matt would probably be upset if I asked this question in a public post.... ERAU Mattmom

Pima do you have a Facebook? My 1st semester grades aren't that good. I am currently a sophomore now. I am having troubles in Biology Honors and English 2 Honors.
    Yorkie,

Thanks! 5 yrs in the making (HS and college), now let's hope that we will have a similar picture next yr with Bullet in his flight suit winging DS.
I am assuming you mean AFA not ROTC. Yes, it goes by state. However, don't read into that because not every candidate from VA is on this site. As stated earlier, you probably have a 7% pool overall, and that is on a good day. LY it was @125 on the list out of 1600 who received apptmts, and that does not include Falcon Foundation.

If you really want to get an eyeball of VA go to the nom site and see if anyone there has heard for the AFA...remember you want AFA! USNA and USMA don't matter, nor does USMMA to you.
Cheryl...one more question before I get off of here for the day! I noticed on the list where folks have posted their acceptances: there is not one Virginia on the list. Do they go by states during the process or is that just a coincidence? I know that I sound so ignorant of all of this! Thank you!
    Pima,

Good afternoon. I member of this forum suggested I get in touch with you regarding type 2 scholarship questions.

My son was awarded the scholarship in April of last year and was told it would start Fall of 2010. As of February, 2011 he has not received any funds from it. He speaks with his detachment commander every week. My son is told funding is tied up in the military budget, yada yada. Needless to say, I have had to borrow to pay for the last two semesters and as a single mother, this is hard.

His DodMERB is complete and he is hoping for an enrollment allocation slot this year. He has told by his detachment not to "contract" until the funding comes through.

I am lost in this maze and am hoping for some guidance. I can't seem to get straight answers from the detachment and I'm not entirely sure my son understands what's going on. Any help you can offer is GREATLY appreciated!! Thanks so much!
