Do yourself a favor if you want aviation. Go to baseops.net. LURK, do not post. You will get a clue on avaiation drops, OTS boards, etc. I say lurk because they are true blue there, and kindness to 1st time posters is not what comes to my mind. Searching the threads there can inform you more than you know
OBTW, I don't know what you mean by Special mission aviation. Fighters and RPA pilots do special target missions. Are you thinking of something like an AC/MC130? Or are you talking black ops? My DS is a C130J pilot and they drop cargo as much as they drop people. Both are specific special missions.
Aerial Gunner...um, I don't even know if that exists anymore! I am racking my brain and all I can think of is a co pilot or CSO position. This is not WWII . There is no additional guy with a gun turret in a plane and that is their only job.
Look, you have to make your own decision. You need to do the plus/minus checklist. You need to research more...do you actually think getting an AC 130 special op right out of basic is easy? Most importantly, this is all moot right now because you are in flux regarding citizenship.
I am an AF wife of a retired O5 WSO that flew the F15E. With him since he was in AFROTC in college. He now works at the Pentagon. I am also the proud Mom of an O2 pilot that flies the C130J
No, my DS actually opted to go AFROTC scholarship. He had 4 nominations to USAFA, but being a military brat he decided that he wanted to make the AF a career, but after only living a life as a military dependent, with an admission into honors program at his Dad's alma mater he felt he wanted 4 years of a world that was not 24/7 AF.
I have a plan B(AFROTC) and C (OTS), but I'll try my plan A(AFA) first.
BTW.. LEAD Program also requires congressional or VP nominations?
Once I've all requirements done(academics, leadership, community service, sports), should I submit my PCQ before the commander's endorsement??
