    Thanks McGNJ for sharing your DS path to nom. DS also has attended Congressman Lance service academy days since freshmen year. No personal connections but involved in veteran services. HIs focus is 100% airforce, not usna, and has been to academy twice and hoping summer seminar. He's taken his ACT already, scored well and strong in athletics. NJ is just super competive. Did lance have a principal nom?

    Lance uses competitive slate, not principal nom. DS was Eagle Scout and had leadership positions in several activities - but not much of an athlete ( 1yr varsity letter in track). Did Boys State, WP SLE, Also did flight lessons over last two years. He thinks interviewers focused most on leadership and Eagle Scout project

    Excellent! We are encouraging ds to apply other summer seminar/wp sle. He's stuck on af. How was wp sle? Did he have american legion sponsor bs?

    DS was also far more interested in USAFA but he really enjoyed SLE and confirmed his interest in attending any SA. I think it also enhanced his application for nominations. He was sponsored by american legion for Boys State but you can apply online and pay your own way. Academies won't know if sponsored or not.

    Congrats on appointment! we are nj07 also but class 2023. Can you share experience with obtaining Lance nom? very competive district and any insight would be extremely helpful. Much thanks and so excited for your family! What a Christmas present!

    Thanks! Lance's office is pretty straightforward, though competitive. My DS attended his info session in spring of sophomore and junior years. He also connected with our local B&G officer (though never interested in USNA) who gave great suggestions in building his resume and preparing for interviews.
