Hello, Sir! I was hoping you might be able to assist me in finding the correct ALO contact for Heritage High School, Littleton, Co. I am unable to find it online and my counselor does not know. I found a phone number for region 3 in a 2016 pre-candidate packet, although I have not been able to get past an answering machine. I would greatly appreciate any help you would be willing to provide :)

Good morning sir, I am actively trying to search for an ALO in my area. I'm a rising high school senior at Clear Horizons Early College High Schol in Houston, Texas. If my high school does not show up, you can try my zoned high schools as backs ups. Just message me and I'll send them to you. If possible, could you provide any assistance and guidance in where to begin? I would greatly appreciate your help. Thank you

Thank you Mr. Flieger 83. As a backup, in case I can't get into contact with him is it alright for me to ask who is my ALO at my other zone high schools?
    flieger83
    flieger83
Sure...what's the other school? And FYI, it'll very possibly be the same ALO. We tend to cover schools in "clusters."

Hey flieger. Nevermind about my previous post. I have already met with my ALO. We are good to go. Thank you Flieger for helping me find my ALO!
Hello Sir, I am attempting to find the ALO for my son. He is an incoming Junior at Center Grove High School in Greenwood, Indiana. We're just beginning this process and feel completely lost. Any assistance and guidance in where to begin would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Do most young people who seek appointment to the Academy apply to civilian college ROTC programs as well? My son is laser focused on the Academy, but the practical side of me is looking at all that is required for appointment, most notably, the leadership/extra curricular requirements. He has the leadership skills and abilities, but is short on opportunities to fill leadership roles. Advice?

    Warlord451
He is a baseball player and is just beginning to get involved with the Civil Air Patrol. Those, coupled with a part time job and a full Honors curriculum schedule, it doesn't leave much time for additional activities where he can display his leadership abilities.

Colonel Hill is the ALO assigned to your school. I'd email him first...give him a few days to respond; I don't know what he does in his civilian capacity.

Reach out to the LOD for that area. I'm not sure which "area" San Antonio is in...but a good start might be to contact:

    Hi!

Okay...you have a "biggie" as the ALO for your school. The ALO listed is Major General Douglas Farnham! General Farnham is the current Adjutant General, Maine National Guard, and also serves as Commissioner for the Department of Defense, Veterans, and Emergency Management.

There's a problem that might prevent my friend's brother from applying to the AFA. He applied to the USNA as his first and AFA as his secondary nomination, but he can't do a long jump! He also says that the AFA aft/pft is much much worse than the USNA prt (which doesn't have pull ups, long jump or 600 yd sprint). He's also saying that he'll flunk out of BCT because of the altitude. Any help?
    flieger83
    flieger83
The only way to become better at physical fitness challenges is to pursue them daily: workout at a gym, at home, run, do pushups and situps, practice long jumping, etc. As for what the USNA PRT has on it, simply look on their website and work on the items listed:
    flieger83
    flieger83
    b. PRT Standards (Minimum Passing Score)
    1) Curl-ups (2 -minutes) : 65 (Male/Female)
    2) Push-ups (2-minutes): 45 (Male) I 20 (Female)
    3) 1.5-mile Run: 10:30 (Male) I 12 :40 (Female)

If someone can't meet those standards (they're fairly simple for a healthy young male/female) then it's time to put down the X-Box controls, and time to get physical.

His 1 1/2 mile is 12:00. He needs to get to work. He also did a mock cfa and his mile time was 7:50. Yikes
I was trying to ask you whether the USNA or AFA was harder strictly in terms of physical rigors, not academic.
    A
    #academyhopeful
Also, KPEngineer said that KP puts little emphasis on PRTs. Is this true?
    flieger83
    flieger83
Not mine to say; he'd know best.

Hello. I inquired about my friends brother's chances at USNA around a month ago, but now he's asking me whether the AFA, Annapolis or the CGA is the hardest physically (mainly NA vs. AFA).
    flieger83
    flieger83
Ahh...the "which is harder" question. It's asked every year and the answer is pretty much the same: each year it changes. "Typically," the ranking for "most difficult" which means:
    a. Hardest to get an appointment
    b. Toughest academically
    c. Toughest physically
it has come out like this, for many years:
    (see the second post)
    flieger83
    flieger83
    1. USAFA or USNA, it really depends on the year, they swap a lot
    3. USMA (harder physically than the others)
    4. USCGA (tough competition to get an appointment)
    5. USMMA (easiest to get an appointment BUT BUT BUT probably the toughest to survive academically)
As I said...that's a personal observation based upon a lot of years of being an ALO and knowing a lot of appointees to all five academies.
Sir, I am having great difficulty getting Navy Personnel Command to recognize that the DIEMS for service academy grads is the date we entered the service academy and not the date we graduated. Can you tell me where to find this in Title 10 USC?
    flieger83
    flieger83
Ouch...that's a toughie...here's what you'll find in Title 10: service as a cadet/midshipman does NOT count for military retirement, but can be counted as military service in certain cases (you go to work for the post office or another government service agency). The DIEMS may or may not be the same across the services.

This information is on the website https://militarypay.defense.gov/ Click "Pay" then scroll to the bottom of the drop-down menu and click "retirement". Then scroll to the section titled "Retired Pay Base. I just cannot find the reference document.

DS is fairly far in both USNA and USAFA processes. This CFA was submitted to USNA because they allow for multiple submissions (i.e. they will take an improved score if you want to keep improving). Upon request by the candidate, they will share your CFA with the other SA. Our understanding is USAFA only allows one submission (or maybe a second chance if they want you). It was a formal CFA.
Did CFA recently with the following:
    BB - 73
    Pullups - 12
    Shuttle - 8.6
    Situps - 95
    Pushups - 65
    Mile - 7:07 (best time is 6:35)
Are the scores above worth submitting to the Air Force Academy? If you do it all again and get worse in other categories but a better mile time how do you decide which score to submit?
    flieger83
    flieger83
    They're not bad!

Okay, so here's the critical question: who did you do this for? Just you and a coach, or for one of the SA's? I ask because USAFA won't ask for your scores until you're fairly far in the process. Who you did this for will help shape my answer.
How important are recent standardized test scores on a LEAD Application? I last took them in 2016 (ACT eng-26, math- 28, read- 31, sci- 31) but decided to apply a little too late to retake confidently. I’m debating between applying this year and waiting until next year to put together a more complete package, but would appreciate ALO feedback.
    flieger83
    flieger83
    Hi!
The LEAD program "normally" sends airmen to the prep school to get them "back in the academic realm" realizing they've been out for a while. Call any of the AFA counselors (they're on the website: academyadmissions.com ) or you can DM me your email and I'll query them.

WHEN to apply depends upon your age. Although you probably are fine there.
Can you please direct me to how I go about changing my user name? Is there a way to delete account and start over?
    flieger83
    flieger83
You'd need to contact TacticalNuke...the site owner, and speak with him.
