I'm slightly confused when you say a 98.6 GPA. Where I am from a GPA can either be weighted which is usually on a 5.0 or sometimes even a 6.0 scale or unweighted which is on a 4.0 scale. Do you mean that an average of all his class grades was a 98.6? Also, I do not want to needlessly argue because you obviously have your mind made up that your son is the best of the best

(I will not argue with that because I do not know enough about him nor have I seen his application), but there are thousands of candidates just as good as him. Yes, a 1560 is in the 99%, but there where over a million students who took the SAT this year. There are thousands of graduating seniors with 4.0 GPAs.

Many of these students have strong extracurriculars and leadership. This is what it takes to be competitive in college admissions in the present age. As a graduating senior this year I can understand the pain of rejection and not understanding why, thinking that I must be qualified I have perfect test scores, gpa, extracurriculars, teacher recs, and I got into xyz school.

However, with such a competitive scholarship especially during these unprecedented times just because you think your son will get in or is the best does not mean he is. If he wants to be in the military he must get used to "the needs of the Air Force" because those needs will rule his life while he is in.
