  • Hi, I am considering applying to West Point for 2024...but I'm colorblind. Does anyone know if this will affect my chances?

WP is the only SA that accepts color blind students. It isn't that they are less stringent, but rather that color blindness does not hinder the tasks required by most soldiers. If you have time, look up 'color blindness and night vision' for insight as to why the army does not see this as a deficit.

You will have to take an eye test for USMA (just like I"m sure you did for USNA) and you will fail the color blindness test, but that is not a problem. I was with my son when he took the eye test and I watched him fail that rather spectacularly. He received an appointment so this did not hinder him at all.

You may want to also reach out to a local field Force rep to ask about applying to WP since I'm guessing you will be at a college this year. They can explain exactly what classes you should take to mimic the first year at West Point. Also, I"d strongly suggest that you join army ROTC as this will give you another source for a nomination.

    Good luck!
