    USAFA

I joined CAP in the summer before my sophomore year and I literally did it to check a box for leadership for my application. I needed something I could get a leadership role in quickly and CAP had the opportunities I wanted. That being said, I stayed because it was fun and I loved it - I got my...

    As of now...

The thing is- it’s not someone that JUST got a 1600 SAT, that doesn’t cut it it for USAFA either. 24 is just a very low score compared to the typical applicant who has, as you said, tons of AP classes, varsity sports, community service and leadership positions AND a good standardized test score.

    What is a disqualifying CFA?

Yeah, I just do sets of push-ups and sit-ups including at least one max set every workout. Pyramids help keep it interesting. You could also checkout https://www.military.com/military-fitness/fitness-test-prep/15-days-from-pft It's meant for the Air Force fitness test, but it might still give...

    What is a disqualifying CFA?

1 Month is PLENTY of time to bring up those two scores - just make sure you are diligent about preparing. As an AD officer, I maintain general fitness throughout the year by just being active (tennis, jump roping, hiking), and then in the month before my test I work specifically on push-ups and...

    Double majors

As others have said, it is possible, but difficult, and extremely difficult unless you validate a decent number of courses going in. I did a double major in physics and math, but it meant that senior year, when many cadets had only 5 courses, I still had 7, and 4 or 5 were major's courses...

    First time back at USAFA

I am a 12 grad so it’s been a little over 7 years, and for the most part my time at USAFA was pretty great, so it’s fun being back. The biggest difference is the new character/leadership center (can’t remember the actual name) that they were just breaking ground on when I graduated. That and...

    First time back at USAFA

I am at USAFA for an event (Cyberworx) this week and realized it is the first time I have been back since graduation. It is definitely a strange experience. I keep seeing a road/sign/static display and having some seriously vivid flashbacks to basic/freshman year. So strange.

Sophomore in HighSchool, hoping to get into USAFA

Too bad, but if you are only a sophomore now that makes you high school class of what, 2022? You could always do a year somewhere else (prep school or local college) and then apply the following year when you are a US Citizen

    Competitive District

That's very interesting - my year is on there! Looks like there were actually 9 from my district my year. That's definitely higher than I thought.

    DS Recieved LOA today!

It's based on their knowledge of the school's rigor as well as the difficulty of classes taken. That is, a student at a competitive, rigorous high school taking all honors/AP/hardest classes offered, will have their GPA adjusted way up from wherever it actually is to compensate for the rigor of...

Sophomore in HighSchool, hoping to get into USAFA

Hmm, that's a tough situation. I'd say see if you can work something out with the coach (and make sure you make it clear it is because you need more classes, but are willing to practice more outside of school hours), that is your best option. If you can't then USTA will have to do, just make...

    Competitive District

You are in what I would guess is a very competitive district. All that means is that there are a lot of candidates competing for the nomination in your congressional district. Denver, since it is very close to the Air Force Academy, is very likely highly competitive with lots of applicants for...

Sophomore in HighSchool, hoping to get into USAFA

I have to say that is the strangest way to do sports I have ever seen...but, with that information, my big question is, how good are you relative to your team? Would having you play for the team significantly improve the team? Is your coach a reasonable person? I am a high school and middle...

Sophomore in HighSchool, hoping to get into USAFA

Looks like you need one more post before we can message, so I'll repeat my question, are the matches themselves still after school? Or do all the schools in your area do tennis/sports during the school day?

Sophomore in HighSchool, hoping to get into USAFA

So tennis is a class for you? Is that just practice, or do you have matches after school? I have never heard of a school sport happening during school... If it is just practices, is there any way you can be on the team but not go to all/any of the in school practices? This may be a scenario...

Sophomore in HighSchool, hoping to get into USAFA

Maybe - it depends on how serious you are about it and again, whether YOU can explain how USTA tennis gives you the same benefits as a high school sport (as outlined by Christcorp here https://www.serviceacademyforums.com/index.php?threads/sports-and-your-academy-application.44076/). I know all...

Sophomore in HighSchool, hoping to get into USAFA

I'd say dropping tennis was a mistake - go take a look at the "sports and your academy application" and make sure you have something that fits that if you are not playing a sport. I also don't really see much in the way of leadership - you have time, but you should make it a priority. I'm sure...

    Study tips? Time management?

Here are a few suggestions Try to figure out WHY your homework is taking so much time- is it taking everyone else the same amount? If so there likely isn’t much you can do in the way of study tips to speed up. If not- see what you can do to be more efficient when you are doing homework. Are you...

    CFA scores; Retake or not?

That shuttle run is VERY slow and the BBall throw is a little low, but probably passing - those are two events that can be easily improved by working on technique.

    CFA scores: Good or not?

I'd say those are solid and that your time is better spent doing other things. The push-ups, BBall throw and shuttle run are a little low, but not terrible. If you really think you can do a lot better then it may be worth it to take it again, but if you only think you can do a little better, it...
