    Army ROTC

If he is awarded a scholarship it will be for specific schools selected from the list he provides as part of his application. I believe he has to list 7 schools. If he is awarded a scholarship they will tell him the schools from his list that he can use it for. DS was offered a choice of 2...

4.5 years to graduate and OML

Thanks! His grades are really good so hopefully he can keep it that way for one more semester. I was a little confused with your response to the PFT piece though. Are you saying fall of senior year would be his last test?

4.5 years to graduate and OML

DS asked his cadre this but didn’t get an answer. I know that typically they use your grades through the end of junior year for your OML points. Is that still the case if you have been approved to graduate in 4.5 years (engineering major). DS is half way through his junior year and was wondering...

    Dual Scholarships - Allowed?

There are no rules against it. But it depends on the school. DS’s school withdrew his scholarship offer once he received the ROTC scholarship. Another school that he applied to but chose not to attend would’ve allowed him to keep it. Check with the bursars office at the school you are considering.

    AROTC 1st Board

DS was only offered a choice of 2 schools. Fortunately one was his first choice!

Applying for more than one ROTC

Are you aware that the army gives out the most scholarships? If you are interested in the Army (and there are a lot of options within the army) then I would strongly recommend applying for the army scholarship too.

    Selecting a major AROTC

DS is thriving as an MS3 majoring in engineering. Does he have a 4.0? No, of course not. But he has great grades plus gets extra OML points due to the difficulty of his degree. That said it’s certainly not for everyone and you need to be prepared to study your butt off if you want to keep your...

Typical to receive additional school scholarships in addition to NROTC? Honors? Etc

DS lost his merit scholarship when he was awarded an AROTC scholarship so we are on the hook for room and board. But the school was such a good fit for him that he chose to go there, despite being offered additional scholarships from other schools. Bottom line is the school has to be the right...

    AROTC Summer Camp Options

I’m afraid I have questions for you not answers. DS is in the exact same situation as you. MS3 engineering student who will graduate a semester late. I would love to hear more info on the Corp of Engineering scholarship that I assume you did last summer as I think that might be valuable for him...

    Branch Night Class of 2020

Can’t open the link but thanks for the statistics. DS is a year away from branching and very nervous about getting something he really doesn’t want. This may reassure him a little.

    Branch Night Class of 2020

Wonder if that statistic is available for ROTC cadets?

Another Important Matter Concerning the Existence of Humanity- Coffee

Grew up in England and I never met anyone who drank Earl Gray. Tastes like soap to me! Typhoo or PG Tips always, which I’m fortunate enough to be able to find in an upscale local grocery store. Basic black tea but SO much more flavor than Liptons.

    Branching

Good luck. Hope she gets what she wants! Thanks for the input.

    Branching

That may be part of it although I think it’s more a fear of getting something he really doesn’t want (not going to say what that is as I don’t want to offend anybody), rather than a fear of not getting engineering, if that makes sense

    Branching

I know I have seen some posts on the new branching system for AROTC but I’m still not clear as to how it works. DS is a junior and is telling me he has to put in his preferences for branching now already. I believe in the past this was done after camp / junior year at which point they would know...

    AROTC Aviation

Anyone know if the commitment extends beyond 8 years if the cadet chooses to go the National Guard route after commissioning and is interested in branching aviation? Also how does flight school work if going the national guard route? Thanks!

Typical to receive additional school scholarships in addition to NROTC? Honors? Etc

DS is at Clemson. They do not stack scholarships. Once he found out that he received an ROTC scholarship his merit scholarship was withdrawn. Alabama on the other hand would have allowed him to keep the substantial merit scholarship that they offered him. He loves Clemson though so that’s where...

    Internship and Camp Dates

The cadet that I know did an army internship so they worked with her. Not sure if they would have been so accommodating for a civilian internship.

    Internship and Camp Dates

I know one cadet who just did both this past summer. Pretty sure she went to the first camp and then immediately to her internship. So seems it can be done. In fact DS is hoping to do both this coming summer too. Good luck!
