Letter of rec from high school teacher vs college professor

He has office hours run by TA’s. They both don’t speak English very well. I’m just not confident they would be able to write a good letter for me. On a different note, I have a great English teacher that I plan on asking for a letter from. Overall, I think I am re-using 2/5 letters from last...

Letter of rec from high school teacher vs college professor

I am currently a freshman in civilian college reapplying to USAFA after not getting in last year. As per the application, I need a math teacher letter of rec. My 11th grade math teacher wrote a really good one for me for when I took AP Calculus AB. I am taking more calculus in college, but in...

Is anyone able to read my essay?

The title says it all, I am hoping someone can read my essay that I have written and give me some constructive criticism if needed. If you are able and willing, send me a PM. When you PM, If you could just provide a brief explanation as to if you are a candidate, parent, ALO, current cadet, this...

    Algebra 2 Adv or Honors?

What is more important than "being in the best position for the academies" is building a firm foundation in math regardless of where he plans to go to college. If he is truly confident in his ability to perform well in the class then by all means take the opportunity. Since he is jumping quite a...

    3rd essay question on application.

What would be a good topic/general way I should take when writing this essay? It states "Please provide any additional information or background you believe will be of assistance in evaluating your application.". Last year I wrote about my desire to serve and talked briefly about my parents...

    AFROTC interest on USAFA Application

This is a very generalized comment that provides no context as to why. There are great opportunities at both. In terms of less strict, rotc is the way to go, but for a lot of people they want the structure, discipline, and opportunities that come from a SA. Please let others make an informed...

Question about Resume part of application

Kind of. They add “notes to your file” but it’s essentially a comment from the team blue or silver that they add to your application. This is my understanding of it because this is what they did for me last year. Your best bet is to put everything you can directly onto the resume section...

What are my chances for USAFA?

You have a really good sat score. I would only suggest retaking if you are fairly confident that you can do better than your previous score.

    USAFA Application Resume

Make sure that it is things you KNOW you will be doing. For example you wouldn’t want to put “12th grade soccer captain” if this isn’t something you are sure of yet. Whereas “12th grade National Honors Society” could be expected if you were a member the year prior and your grades haven’t dropped.

    ACT Writing?

Is this the same as the sat essay section? I know for the sat at least that they don’t even do the essay section anymore. I never needed a section like that when I submitted my sat scores however I didn’t submit my act cause I didn’t take it. Not sure if the answer I gave applies.

What are my chances for USAFA?

Academics, leadership, and athletics are the “three pillars” of the academy. You absolutely need all 3 to have a good chance of getting in. Your academics are good and you have a lot of leadership and ECs. Make sure in your resume section of the application, your essays, and your interviews that...

    College Teacher Recommendations

I can't necessarily tell you what you should or shouldn't do but I am in the same boat as you. I emailed USAFA admissions about this not too long ago but they weren't much help. I asked them if it would be better to submit college letters of recommendation vs using ones from high school, but...

    Responses for Nomination applications

I am reapplying this year for USAFA after being turned down last year. Last year though, I put a lot of effort into the short response questions for the nomination applications, one of which had I believe 18 or 19 questions and the other applications had about 7 or 8. Either way, they took a lot...

    GPA and ACT

I’ve always found this forum helpful. I didn’t get in last year and will be reapplying this year, and I can say with confidence that this forum page has helped me 100%. For the OP: make sure you don’t spend too much time on here though, as I frequently found myself obsessing over it especially...

    GPA and ACT

To back up what the others said and NOT the guy who just got banned, yes, whole person concept is very much real and very important. A lot of the people on here have a lot of credibility and many of which are admissions officers or ALO’s. They know what they are talking about. The new guy who...

    Chance for Acceptance

Have you taken the sat/act? AP classes? What athletics team are you on? Varsity? Captain? Remember it’s not about how many things you can add to your resume, but the quality of what you have on your application. From my understanding, the service academies (and most colleges for that matter)...
