not sure... at my son's HS all of the chem classes had a lab component. I suppose some high schools might not be outfitted for chem labs?

High school calc is not required for admission, although it would be beneficial. (Far more beneficial than discrete mathematics) You do NEED to have either physics or chem with lab. https://www.usmma.edu/node/8266

Note that your letters of rec that you mentioned will work for nomination purposes, but for the Academy itself you will need evaluations from an English, a Math, and a chem or physics teacher.

My son received an out-of-district nomination, among others. (Although my son's HS was in the district of that MOC) I would suggest calling whoever in that MOC's district office manages the nomination process and discussing it with them before doing the application and essays.

While I haven't used a Microsoft Surface Pro a ton, my younger kid has one for school. I think from a note-taking standpoint it's not going to be very different from an iPad... the native OneNote app is actually quite good. There is an iPad version you could download to familiarize yourself with.

I'm not sure if this has been resolved yet, but you want to go to a psychiatrist or other qualified doc and have them administer a "Multidimensional Anxiety Scale and the Personality Assessment Inventory" and be prepared to submit that as AMI.
