I so agree, turtlerunnernc. You actually echo my sentiments exactly. VMI is a feeling as well as a wonderful place to be from. The traditions are just amazing!!!

Just my two cents...my DS is a Third at VMI on 4-year Army ROTC scholarship. VMI is a wonderful, strong school with tremendous history. There are stellar professors, staff, programs, Cadets, and families. Our family is so proud to have one of our own attend VMI!!!

My son had similar stats to yours and received a 4-year Army ROTC Scholarship to VMI. It does only cover tuition OR room & board...not both. As we are out-of-state, this too was the only way he could afford to attend VMI. I would suggest that he apply as it's a great opportunity. As for the...

I wholeheartedly agreed with BLUF...STP is an invaluable experience to get a class out of the way before the Ratline and get geared up for life on Post!

My son is there now as a 4th class Cadet (as of last Saturday!). Things are going well for him. I just wanted to tell you that we were out-of-state, so my son never did an overnight, but we did visit as part of a family vacation and took the tour. We were very impressed! But it didn't stop...

Congrats to your son! It's a great idea to watch as many videos and read as much as you can about VMI. My son did a lot of research, we watched videos, etc. and he's there now as a new Cadet!

If you search Field of Lost Shoes on Facebook, they give a listing of the theaters it's showing in across the US. Only opened in 30 cities though.

As parents of an STP student, we were VERY IMPRESSED with everything and everyone at VMI and STP! Made me feel a whole lot better leaving my DS there :)

Thank you for posting, Murf! We're just beginning the VMI journey with STP in July and then matriculation in August. We visited last year on vacation and took a tour. We were impressed and my son put in a lot of work and effort to get there and it has paid off! We're so proud of him...

Yes, thank you to all the folks who have been down this "getting ready for VMI" road already. This information is very helpful. And if anyone has any other advice on items on our supply list...please share :-)
