    Interesting Point....

It looks like his analysis, while thoughtful, considers only the range of aircraft without refueling. I'm thinking that aerial refueling is kind of central to the way aircraft operate, and would counter his argument that carriers need be close to shore. Now, my assumption is that tanker...

    Quitting a Sport

Good advice above. I emphasize EDelahanty's point about not making excuses about stopping basketball. You are not quitting... as in mid season.. you simply are choosing to concentrate on other things since you are not a basketball superstar. It may sound like 'spin,' but simply not showing up...

CIET - Short report from 1st Regiment

Uh oh. Poison Ivy. DS (5th Rgmt) will not be good with that. He is on the sensitive side to that. Spreads rapidly. I'm sure the medics will be able to figure it out. Thanks again for the updates... we are currently having the discussion about going for graduation. I think we are leaning to 'no'...

CIET - Short report from 1st Regiment

The early reports from the 5th regiment sound similar to the first. They arrived last Thursday. I gather it has not been physically tough for those who are in shape, and they are permitted to have their phones in the evening, but very poor cell service, so testing is the means of communicating...

    Marijuana Use AFROTC?

Consider the scenario five years from now... you re getting a background check for a security clearance necessary for a job you find desirable. Investigator #1 asks if you ever used marijuana or any other illegal drugs. You say either 'no', or 'yes'. Investigator #2 then asks, 'well, which is...

CIET - Short report from 1st Regiment

First, thanks for the short updates on the training! it is interesting reading and give great insight about what DS will be encountering later this week. "Improvise, adapt and overcome...." this past weekend's Father's Day events took me and the family past Washington's Crossing NJ/PA. My kids...

    Parent's education

This is not relevant to your direct question, but it seems to me that your experiences as an immigrant family could make your essay far more interesting and engaging than any other 'check box' answers in the application. Get to work on that.

CIET - Short report from 1st Regiment

I'm curious what sort of restrictions the ROTC cadets are under during CIET. Do they have days off? Are they permitted off-base? Is the day scheduled from reveille to taps, a-la boot camp, or is it less restrictive? I gather they are not permitted cell phones. Is that for the entire time?

    71 years ago today

Thank you for the remembrance. I think it was not even mentioned yesterday in the news. And so, I recalled the anniversary for everyone in church today. I am always struck by the superlatives of that day, but the ones that really focus my mind are: about 156,000 (one hundred fifty six...

    Enlisted DQ

yes, I did mean "standards". Sorry for the confusion. Regards the DQ, yes, I understand it was a DQ previously, but I wonder if it will continue to be a DQ once corrected. I do not have the answer, but I think if the DODMERB standard says 'history of ' you probably will DQ and go the waiver route.

    Enlisted DQ

Two thoughts... 1. it seems to me that if you have the procedure and are fully recovered and have no limitations, then a waiver is surely possible. I suppose if you are fully recovered and 100% you may not even be DQed, making the waiver moot. A look at the DODMERB website will get you to a very...

    Attending Law school after graduation

I am wondering if anyone has info on about how many slots/billets open up each year in JAG for each service? Based on the discussion above, it must be a small number. The Army seems to have about 2,500 JAG officers (including those assigned to Corp of engineers) and the Navy about 750. The...

Book Recommendations for Succeeding in NROTC or ROTC ?

+1 to navymom. Being in tip top shape going in will make PT 'not a problem', and he will not want problems. plus, don't over think this. He will be told what to do to succeed. If he does those things, he will succeed. If he chooses to give half - effort, he will not succeed. Your son has to have...
